NHS compared to US, other countries
Edited on Thu Aug-13-09 12:31 PM by robdogbucky
http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2009/aug/12/nhs-us-healthcare-obama

"How does the NHS compare to US healthcare?
As Barack Obama fights to change the system, we asked - when it comes to treatment - is US healthcare any worse than the NHS? See how they compare to other countries, too

The NHS has become the butt of increasingly outlandish political attacks in the US as Republicans and conservative campaigners rail against Britain's "socialist" system as part of a tussle to defeat Barack Obama's proposals for broader government involvement in healthcare.

But how does the US compare? We've looked at some key indicators on healthcare, from countries in the G8 - plus Cuba and China, thanks to the World Health Organisation..."

How the NHS compares can be found on a chart in this blog extract that will not copy well to this venue, but the sortable columns have the following categories listed.

-Per capita spending on health ($)
-Doctors per 10,000 pop Nurses and midwives per 10,000 pop
-Hospital beds per 10,000 pop
-Life expect. at birth

The comments made by readers are worth the read here as well.

Enjoy

2. Good information. Thanks for posting.
You'd think that just from a "conservatively fiscal" view that pubs. would favor a NHS. I guess it is more important for them to just say "no" to everything Obama/Dem.

3. my close friend works for the govt health care in Belgium.
The thing that is so ridiculous about all this, is that what Obama is proposing is not even govt health care in the same way, it's much less intrusive.

But guess what? My friend and her family get health care (GOOD HEALTH CARE) whenever they need it. They don't wait for surgeries, and are so pleased with it. They think that we're all rather barbaric for not taking care of our people.. and wonder if that's why Americans look so unhealthy. And she got good health care before she went to work for them, so it's not like she gets special privileges.
