Subject: Nancy Reagan’s Letter of Forgiveness
I don't normally pass these on, but this is amazing:)

Subject: Nancy Reagan’s Letter of Forgiveness

You might recall that John Hinckley was a seriously deranged young man who shot President Reagan in the early 1980's. Hinckley was absolutely obsessed with movie star Jodie Foster, extremely jealous, and in his twisted mind, loved Jodie Foster to the point that, to make himself well known to her, he attempted to assassinate President Reagan.

There is speculation Hinckley may soon be released as having been rehabilitated. Consequently, you may appreciate the following letter from Nancy Reagan the staff at the mental facility treating Hinckley reports to have intercepted:

To: John Hinckley
From: Mrs. Nancy Reagan

My family and I wanted to drop you a short note to tell you how pleased we are with the great strides you are making in your recovery. In our fine country's spirit of understanding and forgiveness, we want you to know there is a nonpartisan consensus of compassion and forgiveness throughout.

The Reagan family and I want you to know that no grudge is borne against you for shooting President Reagan. We, above all, are aware of how the mental stress and pain could have driven you to such an act of desperation. We are confident that you will soon make a complete recovery and return to your family to join the world again as a healthy and productive young man.

Best wishes,
Nancy Reagan & Family

P.S. While you have been incarcerated, Barack Obama has been banging Jodie Foster like a screen door in a tornado. You might want to look into that.

1. I'll give this to Nancy: That's compassion.
Now OTOH, what about a wayward ne'er-do-well son who got installed in the WH who invaded another country and murdered its democratically elected president because "he tried to kill my dad, y'know . . . . "

7. Seriously!
And apparently I'm a bad person for posting this too, if you read my email coming in right now.

I think this perfectly illustrates their hypocrisy. They actually think this is funny, but it illustrates their entire MO.

sites.

It's a call for Obama's assassination. He's been screwing Jodie so Hinckley needs to go put a bullet in him.

It was pulled from Free Republic.

Read the whole letter!!!!!!!

It is amazing. It perfectly illustrates the freakish sense of humor of the RW, and the irony.

You, my dear, clearly have an irony deficiency.

6. It sounds like their kind of humor.
Then again, it could just as well come from our side of the fence: as in, "See how those lousy Republicans would stop at nothing to get rid of our president?"

When it comes to Nancy Reagan feeling that way, it may be a joke...but the sad part is, I don't doubt a lot of the freepers read this, laughed and said "Now if only that would really work, haw haw!"

14. I see the irony, but I just don't think even the irony is funny.
I normally have a great sense of humor, but this crosses the line for me.

I won't alert you because obviously we disagree on whether it should be posted here, but you absolutely have the right.

A friend emailed this to me yesterday and when I did research on the origin, I was shocked by the gun sites and white supremacist sites that posted it and the calls to violence that the comments were full of.

I'm scared for Obama, that's all.

See my own post below wherein I copy my own alert on my own thread to the Mods.

I'm scared for Obama too. This is why we should all be aware of how cruel these idiots are.

Pointing a finger at their stupidity, their hypocrisy, and the irony of their stupidity, is our duty.

I need to watch that.

Off topic, but in the same area, have you seen this amazing diary on dKos? I don't read there much these days, but as a HUGE Joan Baez fan, this brings tears to my eyes. And it also illustrates how emotions can get in the way of our thinking, which, I think, is what happened to both of us just now.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/8/12/765667/-Joan-Baez-diffuses-right-wing-protest-at-Idaho-concert

It's a beautiful story, but in keeping with the lesson I just learned here, thanks to you;) I would change the title of the diary to:

Joan Baez Teaches Us All a Lesson on the Milk of Human Kindness.

I apologize for not being kinder during our discussion here.

21. Yes! I loved it--in fact, I emailed it to several friends last night.
I LOVE Joan Baez. I saw her in concert in early '80's in Grace Cathedral in San Francisco--absolutely amazing.

She is such an example of true, liberal compassion. I did shed a tear when I saw the pic of her signing the back of the protestors' signs.

No problem about our misunderstanding. I read your posts on DU all the time and consider you a fellow sister in the cause.

Dear Mods,

Apparently this OP requires too much thought for some. I invite you to read it, my posts included wherein (and I cannot believe I actually had to do this) I explain in excruciating detail why I think this obvious Freeper email joke is relevant. If you feel I’m out of line, a complete explanation in the thread would be greatly appreciated.

Yours truly,

JuniperLea

I'm not upset at you. I'm upset at much of the harsh rhetoric coming out of the reich wing the last several months towards Obama. I am, also like you, (I think it was your comment) concerned about the safety of President Obama. Reading the racist comments coming from FreeperLand and other reich wing commentators scares the hell out of me.

Peace.

24. I couldn't agree more
Edited on Thu Aug-13-09 01:51 PM by JuniperLea
I objected strongly to her bringing the "woo woo" into the White House... no, more the insinuations and stories that she would not allow travel or meetings unless her astrologer approved the dates in advance, that sort of thing. Everyone is due their own beliefs; I don't care to have the beliefs of others foisted upon me or my country.

Despite her erroneous thoughts on The War on Drugs, and Just Say No, and the afore-mentioned "woo woo," I think she is a genuinely lovely person who loved her husband and her country dearly. She is a shining example of what most of the knuckle draggers in her party should aspire to, and for them to use her like this is pretty pathetic.

But that is part of the irony I was hoping would be shown in this thread. Thanks for getting it.

27. I watched a Huell Howser program recently on PBS...
A visit to Reagan's Western White House. I was so incredibly impressed with the stories from the men who still run the place, and I came away with a new found respect for the human being that was Ronald Reagan. He really did have a heart. The other thing that struck me was how modest that ranch house is, how homey. He had his own Jeep and wagon, and there were films of him doing a great deal of work there. The stories about him riding his horse, and the day he had to give that up, were particularly touching.

I have a great respect for the human being; I wish the politician had been as wise and caring.

It was hard for me to admit my respect. I think I'm a better person for having been able to achieve that. See? He touched my life in many positive ways, weird, huh?

:)

Ronald Reagan was a criminal who never got prosecuted for the numerous crimes he committed. (Like Nixon and Kissinger before him and Bush, Cheney and their gang after him.)

I found this to be funny. I don't think the OP wishes harm upon the President or John Hinckley will get this letter and then go on a new rampage.

If this nation cannot joke about our tragedies, but of course without throwing salt on the wounds of those impacted, then we will continue to be terrorized by heinous acts.

Edit: I did not know this was found on a RW site, but oddly I still find it to be funny. Sorry.
