CNN Prez Tells Staff to Stop Booking Talk Radio Hosts - 'They Just Add to the Noise.'
By Susie Madrak Thursday Aug 13, 2009 6:00am
Although we didn't get rid of Lou Dobbs, it looks like the stink we raised is having an impact. From today's Mediabistro.com:

Exclusive: TVNewser has learned, and a CNN spokesperson confirms, that in his morning editorial meeting today, CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein asked his show producers to avoid booking talk radio hosts. "Complex issues require world class reporting," Klein is quoted as saying, adding that talk radio hosts too often add to the noise, and that what they say is "all too predictable."

One of CNN's longtime show hosts, Lou Dobbs, hosts a daily radio show. A few political contributors also host radio shows including Bill Bennett and Roland Martin. They are presumably not affected by this.

But this means other talk radio hosts who appear regularly on CNN, probably won't in the near future including names like Stephanie Miller, Michael Medved, and Ben Ferguson.

1. I never understood
why talk radio hosts were guests on TV "news" programs. I mean, they got their air time on the radio, so why expand it to TV?

Double-dipping in the entertainment business...................

2. Great! More time for corporate lobbyists!
We didn't need Stephanies 1 hour (maybe) vs. RW assholes 20 hours every week anyway. Way it goes in the "liberal media".

4. This seems odd...
A news organization's political affiliation should be secondary to its primary duty which is reporting the news. When I think of free speech I believe that applies to everyone, whether I agree with them or find their views criminal. Free speech period, and not only free speech that I agree with. Our society will not function as it has with only one point of view. If only the right has a voice, who will represent the left and visa versa? Is this a suggestion that everyone on the right is evil and therefore do not deserve to be heard? I do not think that is the case at all. I think there are plenty of fools on the right and the left, but I also believe that both sides intend to make things better. The problem is that government has turned into a sport and many choose to support every member of their team on every issue regardless of how foolish the content rather than examine the details of every issue.

6. It's a suggestion that the ultra-right already has 99.9% of the air time
and don't need the other 0.1%

Enjoy your brief stay
