Whole Foods seems to have censored its forums since CEO Mackey's anti-HCR WSJ piece today
Edited on Thu Aug-13-09 03:01 PM by swag
Some of the comments preserved at The Stranger now sadly unavailable on the Whole Foods Website\ -

- I have been a regular twice a month shopper at Whole Foods for almost 5 years I am truly dismayed by Mr. Mackey's WSJ Op-Ed piece. Millions of Americans have no access to healthcare except for Emergency rooms. I will no longer be shopping at Whole Foods until either Mr. Mackey or the Company disavow his Op-Ed or meaningful Healthcare Reform.

- I too was angered by John Mackey's ridiculous talking points on opposing real health care reform. This is a serious problem, that requires both a financial and moral redress of this growing problem in our country. His use of the perception of "Whole Foods" as a caring partner in health to support his idiotic health care reform opposition is unethical in my opinion. I will no longer shop at Whole Foods, and will ensure that I spread the word to others to no shop there either.

- I too will be voting with my pocketbook and will be now shifting about $250 spent per month at WF to the local co-op. I thank Mackey though for making his position clear so I am able to adjust my spending habits accordingly. I'm sure my family and friends will also be grateful for the news as well. Talk about misreading your customer base.

5. I hate to say it
But it is people like this that make me very skeptical of health foods, especially the "organic" bonanza that has made some companies $$$. If I want better produce, and am not broke, I try to buy from farmer's markets, which at least ensures local produce and keeps money in the community.

Whole Foods = expensive Yuppie Bait.

11. I keep reading about buying produce elsewhere. Well...
no duh! I can't afford organic grapes at 2.99/lb.! But there are certain stock items: Og Swiss chard, og carrots, og parsley (nice, generous bunches), og cilantro, and whatever's on sale that I will buy. The rest of my produce dollars go to a fruit market within a few miles. But WF has their own house brand and that is a very good deal. I don't shop there because it's "hip." Yeah, right. Hip in the way that Charf*ck's is hip. In other words...NOT.

16. I just sent a "won't shop @ WF anymore" letter . . .
spelled out what a great customer they're losing too. I spend four-six hundred at time, drive over an hour to get to the store, and make the trip 2-3 times a month. What a bonehead move of Mackey's. Unbelievable.

18. HA!!
If you go the forums page on the WF website, there are some truly funny people:

Posted in the "Nut Free" Forum - a request for a Nut Free Board of Directors
Posted in the "Product Request" Forum - a request for a new CEO
Posted in the "Favorite Recipe Swap" Forum - a request for "obviously you don't know your own customer base" soup

I think Whole Foods really stepped in it this time.

21. Couple of years ago, the Whole Foods CEO got caught stock manipulating.
He was going online and talking up his stock and talking down some competitor.
