Are Republicans really building their hopes of a comeback on birthers and screamers? |
|
Seriously, how can that strategy possibly work? They may have temporary gains from a backlash against the Democrats, but an already extremely RW party will have to veer even harder to the right to appease their base. They already have permanently lost the Northeast and West Coast, and pushing harder to the right will only further alienate states where they have lost serious ground (Virginia, North Carolina, Arizona, Nevada, etc.).
How can they expect to become anything more than a regional party in the Deep South?

1. It appears so. At the Missoula Country Fair the Repos have a big sign at their booth that says |
|
WE ARE THE MOB!
They said it.

They are becoming an increasing embarrassment to the pubs in places other than the deep south. I can see a 3rd party emerging at some point.

6. I've thought that might be a possibility. |
|
I can't see them resigning themselves to electoral obscurity for a generation to rebuild though. It would probably be best for everyone if they did though.
The really scary thing about that though would be that you would have intensely concentrated power in the South put in the hands of a deeply theocratic, racist, and anti-intellectual offshoot party.

9. yeah, don't want to see it |
|
But if the solution to some serious problems we're having is for them migrate to and congregate in a region, at least in the short term, maybe that is what it has to be.

4. I think that they are actually gambling on a concept. |
|
The concept is that a smaller but highly ideological and motivated group of people can beat out a larger but complacent group of people whose party is currently in power. With threats and harassment they can scare their opponents away from the ballot box, and can coerce the more moderate group of Republicans into voting.

7. It worked in 1994. People who didn't know they were angry got persuaded that they were. |
|
And a hastily fashioned Contract with America was put forward at the last minute as something "positive" to vote for.
This looks like a rerun of that show from fifteen years ago.

I think the Republicans are in "if you're going down, do as much damage as possible on the way" mode.

almost like they have been jilted by America, and have now decided to abuse us until we love them again. To think they will regain favor of the American voter by being obstructive and making no contribution to our recovery is irrational.

16. Yes they are and don't think it is not possible..they ruined clinton because |
|
of sex, sex between two consenting adults by the way, not the hypocritical type politician as are the re-pugs who claim perfection but when unclothed their sins are laid bare...
I just recall what they did to clinton which I thought at the time not only wasteful of our tax dollars but pathetic in how much time and energy they used to ensure a repug got in office regardless that others in our country had to have felt the pinch of when our money began to slowly dissapear...
Republicans care NOTHING about the citizens of this country...they can get on their hands and knees and swear allegiance with their lives and I for one would not believe them...sadly...the little people..the ones outside of the beltway believe they are cared about and so follow along like good little doggies that have been trained for obedience and to know whom is master...
I do wonder why sometimes they are so easily corralled and then it hits me...because they hate..they hate, they are either racist, or despise same sex couples or hate poor people or simply they were spoon fed such bs about the Dem's since birth and just like so many I have heard, can no longer honestly separate fact from fiction..they are so used to being told what to think, what to say, whom is the enemy that they no longer seem to have the ability to "just say No"
And for that...they do not have my pity..they have my contempt...nothing more, nothing less..they have joined the party of hate and greed and I sometimes I wish that the afterlife with a Deity is in fact fact because surely they will pay for all those years that they chose to ignore the very core of what religion should stand for...
and that is to love your fellow man, regardless of the color of his or her skin, the place of his or her birth, or the lifestyle that he or she has chosen....and as the bible clearly states Jesus to have said...the wealthy are in fact evil...and power corrupts..and absolute power is a destroyer of humanity and a gateway in allowing the very devil they claim to despise a very secure and comforting resting place...
