Paying for abortion

What's the big deal? Private insurance often pay (or used to pay) for abortion, so why can't uninsured people be afforded one?

Hell, I don't like my tax money going to support corrupt governments in many places, or pouring money into losing wars, or - shudder - any "faith based" anything.

It would be nice if someone can come with info about covering abortion by private insurance. Unless things have really gone bad and no one does it any more.

Frankly, from an insurance bottom line, covering abortion is cheaper than covering pregnancy and pediatrics later on.

7. Unfortunately non-theraputic abortion its an elective procedure

At a practical level, PP gets a lot of government money and a fair amount of private funding as well. It would address the funding of non-therapeutic abortion issue in many states today if they offered low cost abortion services with a sliding scale for those who could not pay.

I have noticed that the fundie Pregnancy Care Centers in many cases self fund. I would think we could do the same.

8. insurance should cover it regardless if it's elective.... they cover prenatal

care and childbirth ... also elective procedures. No one is forced to get pregnant and squeeze out babies. My insurance rates would go down if they didn't have to cover all those labor and delivery charges, then 18 years of childhood illnesses and accidents.

Planned Parenthood already does more than its share--thank Goddess for them.

Abortion is a medical procedure and it is LEGAL. No one is forcing anyone to have one.
