Naval history buffs: Ever seen a Typhoon Class up close? (Dial-Up warning)

(Text from the web page) This is submarine “Typhoon” as it was called in NATO documents or “Shark” as it was called in Russia. It is considered to be the biggest submarine in the world, with over than 170 meters (515 feet) long and 23 meter (70 feet) wide. It can carry 20 ballistic nuclear missiles and there were only six of those built. Only 3 left intact, but are staying now out of service with armament control blocks detached according to the agreement between USSR and USA signed by M. Gorbachev. Without those they are way too peaceful.

The damned thing had a POOL on board!

Interesting as hell, I think. The interiors look so...well..Russian!

Lots and lots more pics here including lots more from the interior.

10. Made me think of "The Hunt for Red October."
That was the first role I saw Tim Curry in since he did The Rocky Horror Picture Show. (How's that for a time warp?)

17. I've been on the Russian attack sub, Scorpion. It was very creepy inside.
That one doesn't make me feel any more comfortable. I assume the pool is occupied by ghosts and goblins.

20. It does look kind of creepy.
It looks as if it has been tied up for quite a while, what with all the rust everywhere.

I've been on several Submarines on display but never a Russian one. The Scorpion must have been cool.
