Someone offer insights - How is it Beck is losing advertisers, but Limpball is not?
Can someone offer some insights to why Beck is hemorrhaging advertisers, but Limpball has remained safe? Limpball has said just as many vile things and has somehow developed some sort of teflon that Beck has not. What is it? (Don't get me wrong - I think Beck is a Limpball imitator and would love to see them both flushed, but am curious why others thing one is glue and the other is oil to the loss of advertisers).

1. BecKKK is on FAUX Noize, Mush is only on the radio
More likely that TV clips will wind up on YouTube or be otherwise circulated than radio clips. Though some of Mush's greatest shits certainly have been.

Though Mush was certainly crossing the same lines BecKKK is now, last spring when he was trying to stir up the whole extended primary season and the PUMA bullshit, hoping to turn it into a recreation of the Chicago 1968 clusterfuck in Denver. (which, thank God, did not happen)

2. Beck's losing advertisers on his TV show, not his radio show. Rush has no TV show....

Radio advertisers are harder to "move", because they're mostly local and they know the demographic of the listeners to a particular show/station.

Beck's Fox News show is national... and those are national companies and the audience that is seeing the show is not a regional or local one that is homogenous. It is a national, heterogenous audience.

The TV show advertisers can't afford to piss off half the nation with their ads.

The radio show advertisers are advertising to a specific local or regional demographic.... so boycotts don't work on them as well.

3. Rush flirted with television and then left.
I turly believe it may be the nature of the format.

I miss the days of Larry King on radio, telling his Caravel story and interviewing authors. I miss the days of being able to listen to talk radio late into the night and first thing in the morning. I miss the days when talk radio didn't make me jab at the OFF NOW button.

5. Pigboy has been around a lot longer, and his...
advertisers know him and his market. Many are signed up by him, and they make money advertising with him.

Beck's advertisers, OTOH, are often part of wholesale media buys, and cheap ones at that, and may not even know, or care, that they're on his show until they get the complaints. The few viewers that cable news has is not worth the bad publicity with an asshole like Beck, so they bail from his show.

7. Plus, Beck is being targeted specifically.
The petitions I've signed have been directed at him, not Limbaugh or O'Reilly or any of the other Republican mouthpieces.

8. Beck is even more unhinged and incoherent in my opinion.

and the TV point is crucial. It is a very different kind of visibility.

9. Rush knows he's lying. Beck doesn't know his ass from his mouth.
Either way, those are pretty low standards for culpability.

10. I thought Rush was down to "As seen on TV" products already.
Anyone know what companies still support the gas bag?

12. Limbaugh is bad, but Beck is, IMNSHO, way worse.
Edited on Fri Aug-14-09 07:29 AM by Edweird
I can't tolerate either of them, but the few seconds of Beck I did manage to choke down made me scream at my tv. I suspect that if we were to ever meet in person, there would be violence. His brand of smarmy condescending lies makes me crazy.
