I notice in the pictures that Joan Kennedy attended as well. Here's a picture of her with Victoria Kennedy.

5. Yeah, he must be close to the end...if he was at all transitory...
...they would get him in public from time to time...be prepared for some bad news pretty soon i would think.

I wish somehow we could get a decent health care bill passed before it's too late. The cause of his life . . .

10. You would think there would be one Dem in the Senate who might take
the mantle and try to tie in teddy with the bill, and how it was soo important to him, if nothing else than to change the dialogue and get it back on track...you would think....

Now, I am not so sure. This doesn't sound good.

I feel for poor Maria Shriver. Her dad is in advanced alzheimer's, her mom's dead and her uncle is rapidly approaching death.

7. he and my mother were both diagnosed with glioblastoma last summer
she's been gone since the vernal equinox. that he's still here is an amazing testament to his fortitude and the best health care money can buy.

12. It's Terribly Sad About Ted
In the past four years three of the children of Joseph and Rose Kennedy have died: Rosemary Kennedy, Patricia Kennedy Lawford, and now Eunice Kennedy Shriver. If the tabloids are right, it won't be long before Jean Kennedy Smith will be the last survivor of the famed Kennedy siblings.

I wish it weren't true.

13. I realized he wasn't doing well when Kara Kennedy accepted his Presidential Medal of Freedom
It's painfully sad to witness a political icons final days as we are.

Here's an article I read where Patrick Kennedy was talking about how they've used the illness as a period to bond and strengthen relationships in the family.

I found it touching and it made me think of how fortunate they are in some ways to be given the time to do so.

--------------------------------

WASHINGTON — Rep. Patrick Kennedy has found something of a blessing in the curse of cancer afflicting his father: The family has been able to spend much more time with the stricken senator.

"It's been a chance for us to bond and be together and share a special time together that we would never have had together had he been taken from us," Kennedy, D-R.I., said of his dad, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. "That's a big gift. (It) let us have the chance to tell him how much we love him. And him to be there to hear it."

In a telephone interview with The Associated Press, Kennedy the congressman said he considers it a great gift that his 77-year-old father has survived terminal brain cancer longer than his doctors expected. The younger Kennedy said he's spent most days this summer with his father sitting on the porch of their oceanside home in Hyannis Port, Mass., sharing old stories about family, friends and politics.

"In a different sense, it has been a very joyous time because we have had so much more time than any of the doctors had predicted," Rep. Kennedy said.

14. People of My Generation Literally Grew Up With Ted
He has been so much a part of public affairs since 1962, and unlike his brothers, he has grown old like the rest of us. As he is facing his own mortality, so are we of the baby boom generation.
