kind of thinking. This just posted, by someone who calls himself "Rat", (at www.greeleytrib.com) to a story about a woman in Miami who set herself on fire:

"The way I see it is people that try and kill themselves should be allowed to do it. Why put the flames out? Let her do what she set out to do. Now it's OUR tax money paying for this ladies rehab and medical bills...

The first responders should of treated it like a horse that just went down at the track...Put a bullet between her eyes and load her up and dispose of her.

CLOSE THE BORDERS!!!!"


Sadly, "Rat" is not atypical of the thinking that now dominates the comments boards at the newspaper. Some days, not even the obits are off-limits.

Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.


Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.


Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.


Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.

Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.

6. Like CEOs!

I have to admit, I have SOME of those qualities, and I think almost everyone has some of them. But I'm pretty dependable when I commit. I'm not much for wallowing in shame or guilt, and personally I think that is a good, healthy thing. We see what we've done, we evaluate it, and we correct our behaviors.

Besides, many of the things we are expected to do are things that prop up some very wrong things in "society" which I guess is why they call it a sociopath. When you are trying to fix things that are wrong, like thousands of hours of MJ coverage, when you don't even know MJ, or perhaps you don't invest yourself entirely into a celebrity, as per societal design, and would much rather hear about the heatlh care bill, or Mark Sanford's affair, or his involvement in The Family, or generally more important things, then maybe at times being a sociopath is a good thing.

You know, kind of like when someone is out to get you, a little paranoia is a good and natural thing.
