Former President Bill Clinton told an audience of liberal online activists Thursday evening that the nation has “entered a new era of progressive politics” that could last for decades if Democrats can pass ambitious measures such as health care reform and climate change.

I hope he's right, of course, but I don't think he'd know progressive politics if a dog with a collar that said "progressive politics" bit him on the ass.
Bill Clinton was the best Republican President since Eisenhower. He was way better than the alternatives, but definitely not a progressive.

The Americorps act was good, progressive legislation. The gas tax was also a good idea (though inherently conservative in that it eventually helped balance the budget). Clinton did fight for health care reform, but his plan was a wishy-washy middle-of-the-road kind of thing. He didn't even try to get single payer. Obama is following in his footsteps. That is, indeed, depressing.
