Question about AARP and supposedly angry members.
I posted an article on Facebook where the AARP debunked the whole "death panel" lie. One of my Randian friends from high school responded saying a lot of AARP members are angry with AARP for supporting Obama's bill (apparently unaware that there are at least three bills, none of which were written by the WH.)

I realize the burden of proof is on him to demonstrate that the statement is true.

I realize he's changing the subject as my post was about death panels only.

Nevertheless, is there any evidence that a large number of AARP members are angry with AARP?

Thanks

1. AARP is in bed with insurance companies. AARP members are not educated on what healthcare bills are

out there and they sure know nothing about HR 676.

3. It would, indeed, be a change if AARP came out favoring
reform with strong public options - we KNOW they will never support HR676. I tore up my AARP card when they supported the prescription bill boondoggle. I realized then they were more interested in insurance company profits than advocating for seniors.

2. I kissed AARP GOODBYE when they pushed the Medicare Part D BS

My husband and I were both members when the Republicans shoved this piece of s^&t legislation down seniors throats. Haven't looked back since and could care less who or what they endorse. They don't represent the "retired people".

12. I was one of them. The "R" in AARP turned out to mean "Republican."

5. There are "concerned citizens" protesting at AARP WV HQ because they weren't allowed in town hall
Group Protests AARP's Support of Obama's Health Care Plan

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A group of concerned citizens spent Friday afternoon protesting outside the AARP headquarters along Summers Street in Charleston.

The group claims the organization is taking advantage of seniors and its support of Obama's new health care plan will only hurt them more.

Some protesters are also upset they were not allowed into a recent town hall meeting with Senator Jay Rockefeller that was hosted by the group.

During the event, Senator Rockefeller took several questions from people in the audience. However, all the questions were pre-screened by the organizers of the event.

6. I am not angry with AARP but certainly
disappointed with them. I am not a member but get my Medicare Part D through them and they are just like any other company--gouge you for the monthly premium. I don't know what happened to the guys who wore white hats.

9. AARP doesn't care. They're too big to be affected.

Besides they have the cheapest insurance.

10. Is this for real.?
Come on AARPers, who are we to believe? those guys who seem to hate any change in health care, those who are peddling the "death panels" idea? Just attend your local AARP group and let your voices be heard. I am convinced that the Insurance an pharma copanies are the ones stirring this BS.

13. I would be careful on this one.
I do not have any evidence but I would not be surprised in the least if there were large numbers of AARP members upset at them for supporting the health care bills.

IIRC older Americans are more likely to be conservative, and certainly a portion of the AARP membership will be.
And like most Americans, regardless of political affiliation, the will have no clue what the hell the bills are about.

So I would imagine a lot of their members will be upset.
