CNN Finally Fires Lou Dobbs
Source: Bill Press Show

Tribune Media Services

It took him a long time, but CNN President Jon Klein finally got around to doing what he should have done a long time ago. In order to maintain the professed trademark of his network for objectivity in broadcasting, he realized he had no choice but to fire Lou Dobbs.

Of course, cautious as he is, Klein did not fire the anti-immigration crusader directly, or even alone. He threw Dobbs overboard as part of a vendetta against radio talk show hosts in general.

As first reported on the Website TVNewser.com, in a conference call on Aug. 11, Klein told his producers they should no longer book radio talk show hosts on CNN shows: not on “The Situation Room,” nor Larry King, Anderson Cooper, or Campbell Brown. From now on, said his edict, no radio talkers will appear on CNN. Period.

Why? Because, argued Klein, radio talk show hosts are incapable of understanding or commenting on the important issues of the day. “Complex issues require world-class reporting,” sniffed Klein. Not only that, TVNewser.com quotes Klein as complaining that radio hosts too often do nothing more than “contribute to the noise,” and their comments are “all too predictable.”

7. Not confirmed...
The article just talks about CNN changing their policy a few days ago about having radio hosts as guests.

Go to the TVNewser site the article mentions. Not one word about this.

There was only one news organization who reported this, but they pulled the story.

14. Yes, I saw that Hartford Courant article was pulled.
It sure would be nice to see him get fired, though.

6. I hope they do fire him and it sounds as if they are paving the way to do so
but let's face it, if he is bringing in any ratings, they'll keep him. He's an ass and if they do fire him, he'll just end up on ClusterFox anyway and there he'll be worse, like Glenn Beck was horrible on CNN but a whole lot more horrible on Fox.

12. His ratings have dropped like a rock with the birther nonsense
Apparently his fans were more comfortable when he was blaming all the ills of the world on Mexicans.

He's also losing sponsors, and that, not his lunatic ravings, is the greatest sin any ranter can commit.

4. Not true. I don't think this should be in LBN. This is snark.
Last paragraph:

We now know Lou Dobbs will be fired because we know Jon Klein is a man of his word. After all, he’s the president of CNN, “the most trusted name in news.” Surely, Klein would never ban all radio talk show hosts from CNN and leave talk show host Lou Dobbs on the air. Would he?

8. Bill Press meant it sarcastically.
He's making the point that if Klein followed through literally on his edict to not have talk show hosts on CNN then he would have to fire Dobbs.

29. Ah yes, the radio-host ban on CNN.
IIRC, it was really because Ron Reagan pwned ass on CNN in response to a question on Sarah's quote on "death panels", by saying that Sarah needs to put on a clown nose and exploding shoes.

Totally kicked ass, therefore, it couldn't be allowed on the Conservative News Network...

20. They contribute to the noise because the noise is what pays
their salaries.

But it is a pretty broad-brush approach. There have to be some out there who DO world-class reporting...

21. Klein had his epipany a little too late to do any good
Still, it's good that Dobbs got what was coming to him. Who's next - Beck, Hannity, or O'Reilly?

22. Stephanie Miller was quite pissed this morning, however, if she's reading this
I can tell her that when CNN fired her and then Bill Press I stopped watching it, that long ago. I couldn't care less what they do anymore. They will never be able to bring it back to the network Ted Turner had that I once watched 24/7.

btw Didn't Larry King come from radio? Don't they have to fire him too?
