Travelocity dumps Beck
by Jed Lewison

Fri Aug 14, 2009 at 01:46:03 PM PDT

Following up from Tuesday's post about Glenn Beck's corporate sponsors, here's some great news, from an e-mail sent to Daily Kos by Thornley Fallis Communications, Travelocity's public relations agency.

According to the e-mail, not only does Travelocity think it is important to make it clear they never specifically placed ad's on Beck's programming, they have now explicitly requested that their ads not appear on his show.

Just following up on your Daily Kos post about the Glenn Beck show earlier this week.

To clarify, please note that Travelocity did not specifically place its advertisements on the Glenn Beck program. Simply put, Travelocity buys ads in bulk and then they are placed somewhat randomly.

However, as of Monday Travelocity specifically asked that its ads do not appear during this show.

Congratulations to all the people who have been pressuring Beck's sponsors (and growing number of former sponsors) and kudos to Travelocity for doing the right thing.

16. He won't be fired - he's getting boffo ratings for that time period
Faux will find some dumbass companies willing to run ads. I hate to say it but all the Faux shows ratings have really gone up this summer.

13. Excellent! Now we need to focus on them not advertising on FOX
Don't know about Travelocity, but that's the case with others.

Keep up the good work. I want Beck to lose all his advertisers. We don't need his racist and incendiary language.

24. Here's the thing, though
These mega-corporations buy in BULK, with the NETWORK, and then the network assigns commercials, spread out over all their programming, so even though we have a "promise" from a corp to "not" advertise on beck's show, the total number of ads is still AT Fox, and the money is in Rupert's bank account.

Fox is probably loving all the attention, and they'll just air the ads on other shows. Beck is not going to get fired..in fact he's probably achieved rock-star status at Fox , for being such a "bad-boy" and for getting those wacky lefties all riled up.

Corporations need to be made to take a long look at Fox's overall portrayal of facts , and then asked to not advertise at FOX. They will NOT do this though, since Rupert's a "smart" guy, and has enough other programming that is NOT totally evil, and no corporation is going to miss an opportunity to catch a few customers.

25. My thoughts exactly, does this mean they all buy in bulk? & if so...
...the same could be said for all the other mega-corps who have pulled their ads from BecKKK's show? If that is the case, everything you say in the second paragraph just gets amplified every time a firm pulls its ads from his show which is completely defeats our objectives. So, what's the answer? Or isn't there one?
