Do you remember any stories from when Medicare was enacted?

I remember my aunt being very mad because the eye surgeon she worked with was trying to hustle people in to get cataracts taken care of before Medicare came into effect. She whispered to them that if they could stand to wait a few months, they wouldn't have to pay for the surgery themselves!

1. I remember my parents talking about it,

and being concerned about how much it would cost, would the taxes go up. But they were young then, and when you're young, it never occurs to you that you're going to use the program.

Medicare was very good for them, and their daughters are now closing on being eligible for Medicare.........................

3. When my first book was purchased,

my agent and editor and I discussed titles.

I wanted to call it "Growing Down." Because growing up goes in the entirely wrong direction.

Growing down at least gives you a shot, right?

6. No, my agent ended up coming up with the title -

they don't let me name them, and after I got sick of them laughing at me whenever I suggested something, I quit trying. Bitches.

4. I remember a lot of confusion and mis-understanding

as you'd expect from a massive new program. That's one of the reasons I'd like to see Medicare For All, so we can just build on to what we have and avoid tons of new confusion and years of administrative snarls.
