Former Secretary of State James Baker III said he intends to invest in the buyout of TXU Corp. by a group led by two big investment firms should the deal be completed.

Baker, who has been serving as senior advisor to the investors, told a group of Star-Telegram editors and reporters Wednesday morning that his law firm, Houston-based Baker & Botts, also is providing services to the buyout group.

“I will be an investor if the deal goes. My firm will have a role. That’s why I agreed to be chairman of the advisory board,” Baker said.
