55. You get an add on called adblock. After install, right click any ad

and tell it to block it. That ad will never show up again, it also blocks images, which I like because some images on sigs and avatars on many forums are just awful and/or annoying.

what kind of businesses financially support this board. It pisses me off when people donate a star for me because then I have to continually log in and and if I want to monitor the advertisement.

...virtually none of the advertisers on DU specifically chose to advertise on this website. They purchased advertising through a broker like Google (or ValueClick or Chitika), and that broker automatically distributes the ad to a bunch of websites based on some computer formula.

And we here on DU don't pre-screen any of the ads either. We just accept them automatically. We can block ads after they start running (if we are aware of them, which is rare).

In short: Nobody on either side of the transaction is deliberately supporting the other. It just happens more-or-less at random, with virtually no direct involvement from the advertiser or DU.
