Group protests government health care in Tampa

Many of the men and women who were protesting were not part of an organization. They were everyday people just wanting the government to listen up.

They arrived by bus and rallied in the rain in downtown Tampa.

"I'm pleased with my fellow Americans right now," said Clearwater resident and protest organizer Tom Meehan.

Meehan got 40 people together to make it clear that they do not want government healthcare.

"I've never protested," Meehan said. "I'm a small business owner, and I think I just -- yelling at the TV so much I decided enough is enough really."

So, he recruited his buddy Steve Andersen.

Locals have long suspected Baynews9 of being little more than a house organ for the GOP and the Christian Right. This station made a point of running Gay Pride reports right after Michael Jackson molestation trial reports like it was all some kind of "gay news" and then they denied doing it while continuing to do it. Their PR person is actually Jewish, but other people at the station can be easily identified with fundamentalist churches in the area.


On Free Republic (mind you these people are "not part of an organization", just "everyday people".

Note that the address is "12505 East Starkey Road" Largo Fl. , I can't find anywhere that Starkey Road is "east starkey" except in this listing, which is a little odd but then Largo has weird streets, so it might be a local thing, even though the county and no map service recognizes it as "east" .

1. No such thing as "East" Starkey Road

Ummm, I live here in Pinellas County and Starkey Road runs north and south. Nothing "East" about it. Nice try though.

3. There is a lot that's a little off about this Meehan guy.

His primary residence is on Mandalay, but lists his correspondence address as Island Way. The address on Island Way comes up as a business address for a defunct website and his "pal" Steve Andersen appears to also live on ISland Way.

Odder still, is that Thomas Meehan's profile on Facebook says he supports Securing Out Children's Rights which is an org opposed to Florida's gay adoption ban.

2. I live about 3 miles from 12505 Starkey Rd. I don't why anybody would call it..

..East Starkey as Starkey Rd (as it's called here) runs North and South. :)
