1. first you have to get the dems to support a bill - all of the dems
the GOP is irrelevant - the dems will destroy themselves - just like their base tends to do as well.

3. and why can't the Democratic leaders tell those Democrats that if they don't support a bill
not only will they NOT get support from the DNC, but any legislation they want to put forth will not be brought to the floor

5. They can - would you change your vote on something you believe in
Edited on Sun Aug-23-09 10:00 AM by stray cat
based on blackmail? Also, how much help do the hold outs really get from the DNC anyway? Should someone vote against the perceived interests of their consituents so easily?

2. Filibuster
If they can't get rid of it, another option is to return back to the original filibuster rules, where the party filibustering had to have someone on the floor speaking all the time, otherwise it ended. No more virtual filibusters.

8. It's a rule of the Senate that can be changed or scrapped altogether.
Personally, I think it should have been scrapped eons ago. It doesn't belong in a democracy.

And you're right, Health Care reform is so worth it.
