I wish there was some way we could cut off health care for congress |
|
until they get it fixed. I know I am being unreasonable, but I wish we could ask them to take a pledge that they will not use their publicly funded health care until they fix it for the rest of us.
Or maybe we should flood the registration to run for every congressional seat until they fix it. What if they had to run against 2,000 people?

26. It's unreasonable because it's Rube Goldberg politics. |
|
The possibility of getting Congress to cancel their own health coverage is considerably more remote than the possibility of getting a good health reform bill passed. So why would one use the former to attain the latter when the latter is by far the more obtainable objective?

HEALTH CARE we are going to get. There is no reason for them to be exempt, none at all. If it is good enough for us, it is good enough for them!

3. I agree with you. If they had to go out and shop for health care |
|
for themselves and their families, they would have a different outlook. I love how some of these people want to deny an affordable option for American citizens and they have no clue what things cost.
My medical insurance rates just went up 35%. I'm calling my Congressperson on Monday. This is ridiculous.

6. I agree. It would be nice if they had to use whatever healthcare option |
|
they create for the rest of us. That would solve all of this pretty damned quick.
Even the republicans would climb out of insurance company pockets and create a good healthcare system if it was the one they would be using personally. Always trust selfish self-interest to prevail over anything else with politicians.

they wake up in the morning and find out their health care is what they have given to us.
great idea. that would certainly light a fire under their asses to get them to do the right thing by the people of this country!
"bury it in a general appropriations bill"

8. It is true that they have publicly funded health insurance. |
|
But I prefer to characterize it as an employer provided benefit. The employer just happens to be the federal government.

12. Exactly. They are covered by the FEHBP. The same program that covers all federal employees and. |
|
like all federal employees, they pay premiums, they have deductibles, based on what their particular plan covers. They choose from among a number of private plans that participate in the program. These plans must agree to certain conditions, such as covering employees with existing conditions, in order to participate in the program. And the government picks up part of the tab, but the government happens to be the employer, so it is just acting like many private sector employers who offer the same sort of coverage to its employees.
I'm a retired federal employee with a health condition requiring expensive treatment, tests, and exams, who has paid thousands out of pocket to cover what my plan didn't cover. Any member of congress who has my plan would be in the same boat.

10. While we're at it we should make them eat only deceptively packaged foreign processed foods. |
|
Toxic veggies, HFCS crap, Monsanto crap, etc., until they get with the program that the job of the FDA and USDA is to BALANCE the interests of the people with US economic interests, not to propel global corporations into greater and greater profits at the expense of the health of their constituents.

No thanks. Bad enough way too many Americans are in that position - and well, mostly eye for an eye isn't my style.
But running against them is good -- very good.

16. Agree. Not unreasonable. |

There must be some way to make Congress only eligible for the same level of health insurance as the least covered Americans at any given point in time, i.e. large numbers of Americans have no insurance then neither shall Congress.

|
So it would defeat the point. Better is to leave it in place as an argument for everyone else.
Let's stay rational in this one people. If we stay rational and keep pushing our point we will prevail in the end.

19. this proposal could gain ground rapidly. |
|
here is a proposal that both left and right in america might support. it could be the unifying rally that brings a tattered and abused population back together and demonstrates to us all that we really want and need the same things. then we can, together once more as a nation of citizens, look for and discover where the roots of our troubles lay.

This "I've got mine, so screw you" attitude that so many of them seem to have just pisses me off to no end.
So yes, I would be all for taking their health insurance away and leaving them to fend for themselves.
I bet it would be a surefire way to get them to change their minds really fast.
