Today I had a meeting with a drug representative that dropped of samples and info about the new drug, as we got to talking she told me her tale of woe.
She is young, 32 years old. Independent drug sales rep. She is an independent contractor so she supplies her own insurance. She awoke a few months ago with a feeling of numbness on the right side of her body. Several tests and opinions later it is confirmed that she has MS. She needs a weekly treatment of subcutaneous injections to keep her body function intact.
A few DAYS after her diagnosis she was DROPPED from her insurance company in the form of a letter, several phone calls came with the same results, they would NOT cover her.
Her injections are incredibly expensive and now she has a pre-existing condition.
What the fuck is it that that people cannot see? We need some reform NOW. Why can't the anti-single payer people SEE that?

Democrats, and anyone else who wants true health care reform, doesn't simply get stories like this out there. And out there. Probably several million people have similar and worse stories, and all we get from the media is the crap about death camps. Or committees or whatever else they lie du jour is.

4. I completely agree with you! |

They don't have to come up with expensive story lines, they just have to use these real life situations.
The evidence is there to use the Dems just have to use it!

2. MS treatment is very expensive. |

I knew someone who was a dental hygenist and she was diagnosed with MS. She was fired from her job the day after her employer (small dental practice) found out. They just didn't want her on their policy.
The neurologist I see for headaches has lots of MS patients and he told me his nurse spends half her time doing paperwork for patients who are applying to drug companies for their meds.

3. No joke, and that reform shouldn't enrich health insurance companies. |

I believe that single payer is the only right solution but since single payer has been shoved under the table, I'd be fine with insurance companies having the same slice of the pie only if they agree to cover all comers and to expedite claims payment. I also want a public option that can and will compete with insurers and that means there should be no upper limit on number of enrollees. If insurers want to keep their slice, they'll need to be competitive. Bottom line.
