The Autopia WTF? Caption Contest: Der German Edition
We know you’ve been jonesin’ for a new Autopia WTF? Photo Caption Contest to make you cock your head like a confused beagle. We here at Autopia aim to please, and you’ll love this one.
We found this WTF goldmine not at a Pixar premier but at the Sports & Classics of Monterey auction during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance weekend. Take a gander at the Veritas RS III. It’s got a front end as attractive as an 80-year-old diner waitress who has a voice raspier than Clint Eastwood’s.
The moniker is Latin for “truth,” and it left us wondering how you say “ugly truth” in Latin.
German automaker Vermot is building just 50 of these cars, which look like they were penned by a 12-year-old boy during detention. The tube-framed monstrosity comes with your choice of two powerplants. You probably don’t give a rat’s ass about the weaker of the two, so we’ll tell you the real pavement-peeler comes with a modified 5.0-liter V10 supplied by BMW. It puts down 600 horsepower and can launch the car from 0 to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 215 mph. That about sums up what we enjoy and can make sense of in this car.
Now, to bring to light its WTF characteristics. What is with that styling? This thing looks like the villain in a Pixar movie from the front and something Batman might drive from the back. It’s as ugly coming as it is going. Kinda like the Pontiac Aztek. What’s more, this one-seater starts — yes, starts — at a frugal $487,000.
