haggis-eating surrender monkeys ?
Are we the next nation of surrender monkeys?

Philip Delves Broughton
25.08.09

For Americans who like to think of Scotland as the home of Braveheart and mellow-voiced golf commentators, the decision to release Abdelbaset al-Megrahi has come as a shock.

Could these hairy-legged, whisky-sipping hard men of the Highlands really be surrender monkeys in disguise?

For all their haggis-eating and Sean Connery myths, is it possible that when it comes to standing up to terrorists the Scots are no better than the French?

As a Brit living in the US, the case has provided the first, and I hope last, opportunity to raise the subject of devolution.

5. And there is still no justifying Lockerbie, no matter what.
The whole idea of "getting even" with this country or that country via terrorism or by saying that this terrorist act is merely payback for that terrorist act, or saying "This terrorist act spawns outrage but not enough people are paying attention to that one" is a losing game that it is no use playing.

4. Sure glad some people think it's so funny
including the idiots who posted comments to the article. Apparently America is the "real" terrorist country, and anything other countries to exact vengeance on us is justified because of this. :sarcasm:

People like this give liberals a bad name.

9. If the foo shits,
What other organization, public or private, has had so many illegal, immoral military operations in the the past sixty years? Ranging from Guatemala to Vietnam, El Salvador to Iraq. To much of the world's population the appearance of the US flag on the horizon elicits the same feelings of horror and dread that the Jolly Rogers did at sea three hundred years ago.

A country cannot call down major military operations in order to benefit corporations or expand an empire without having some major blowback.

12. O'Reilly? Oh, anytime soon I suppose that's his MO. But neither do I see him...
standing with any honor in the middle of the aftermath at Stirling Bridge...more like being tumbled out a stone tower's reveal by Longshanks himself but I digress it would seem. Someone will, the RW already has, but I don't see it as 'surrendering'. Surrendering is I think the wrong word to use; surrendering, caving in, walking backward, all that stuff is more what happens in a board-game, or when contract negotiations get wobbly. Not here imo, this is handing back into the mix.

I think it's more the case that O'Reilly, Hannity, Nixon's Ghost, Rove, Cheney, the whole RW hate-radio shit wagon, add your own; have been choking the world for so long and lying about it they can't release, even after having lost they can't let go so they choke themselves while choking America, and they need to release they need to let the blood flow into the atrophied parts of their own brains or are we supposed to conclude here:

"The trouble with Scotland...is that it's full of Scots"
