I have been trapped at work for hours on end forced by superiors to listen to Rush, Howie Stern, Imus and all their nasty ilk. I have been put in the position to either quit my job or put up with it. We're killing people over there. Though you could relate it to the isms, with the Muslims standing in. I've seen enough anti-Muslim hate among the freep-types in the last six years to believe they are the ones standing in for the groups that the racists whine it is "UnPC" to hate, and they are having a hate fest on a group they think no one will call them on it about.

I know there is sexism, but as a woman I think my life is going fairly well and tolerable in comparison to what men may be suffering in the middle east for having little more than a religion in common with 19 hijackers and their Al Qaeda bosses.

It's not black and white, it's all relative. Imus is an idiot, but he's done nothing in comparison to what Bushco has done, and in our names, and that is all of us, all genders and colors.

I, for one, think this issue is important. Aside from racism and sexism, in a best case scenario, it could lead to some of the broadcasters who love the Iraq war and Gonzales (don't know about Sanjaya) from spewing so much hatred, and therefore not appealing to the millions who watch and listen to them. We might see approval of the war go even lower.

Please don't accuse me and others, because we're interested in the Imus story, of not being interested in Iraq. ALL of us contribute a great deal of serious content to this site. I've only been in the Lounge three or four times in my years here.

I'm sorry, but I've gotten prickly about all of this (maybe just call me Imus), and I'm not sure DUers should dismiss topics that other DUers think important, as long as the topics fall within DU's rules for the GD forum. To many of us here, and I would think particularly for some among minority DUers, among female DUers, among those with a keen interest in the influence of the media, this topic is very important.

I've already seen one "post-mortem" thread attempting to organize a way to carry the momentum from these media decisions to Right Wing hate mongers. That's important. It doesn't belong in the Lounge.
