that poor sailor standing in the sun.
watching the kennedy coverage and that sailor has been standing out in the sun for almost an hour.

the other men with him have a visor on their hats or don't have the sun in their face.

he's getting a nice sunburn.

2. At least it is cooler today.
It isn't in the 90s with 70% humidity anymore. That would have been unbearable. The poor guy probably would have collapsed.

3. Been there, done that.
Makes for a 'interesting' tan line.

I hated the "traditional" uniform. Funny, how the people who didn't have to wear it (Chief Petty Officers) always voted to keep it.

4. When I was a kid, I went with my dad to the tomb of the unknown soldier...
it was also in August and a blistering hot day.

I just don't know how those soldiers do it.

I was deeply impressed.

5. Lots more soldiers than you can see...
At the tomb of the Unknowns, they've got more than twice as many soldiers as you see, in a climate controlled "break room", ready to take over at a moments notice. They rotate the troops so that no soldier is out there for too long.
