The article seems to imply that they don't like it, but when it says they disdain sugar, they mean sugar, not sugar + something else. Think about it: If you're presented with something utterly insipid, you'll disdain it, too.

Whenever I mix the antibiotic with her food, I find her dish covered with the tablecloth uneaten.
