WOOHOO! TEN MORE Advertisers Drop Beck! DAYUM!
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/8/27/773297/-Ten-more-companies-say-no-to-Glenn-Beck

Today we're announcing that ten more companies have made sure their ads won't run on Glenn Beck's program:

Adding to an increasing list of companies distancing themselves from Fox News Channel's Glenn Beck, ten new companies whose ads were recently seen during Beck's program--Applebee's, Bank of America, Bell & Howell, DirecTv, General Mills, Kraft, Regions Financial Corporation, SAM (Store and Move), Travelers Insurance and Vonage--have pledged to take steps to ensure that their ads don't run on Beck's show. Forty-six companies have now committed not to support Beck's show since ColorOfChange.org launched its campaign three weeks ago after the Fox News Channel host called President Obama a "racist" who "has a deep-seated hatred for white people" during an appearance on Fox & Friends.

As a long-term customer, I've specifically targeted Apple. But so far, I haven't even gotten a form letter back from them. :-(

Only way they'd pull the plug is if the advertisers refused to be on the Faux network not just Beck's miserable train wreck.

60. Except it isn't a loss....
Think of Beck as a loss leader. His ratings are up and a lot of those people stay tuned after his show end. Even if they lose $ on Beck he brings people into the store.

Like a store selling Soda at below cost and people pick up "a few more things" and store makes money.

Unless either
a) advertisers drop FOX completely
OR
b) Beck numbers decline

then his job is safe.

116. Ain't Happening
Beck's ratings continue to go up, and there are, unfortunately, plenty of businesses out there that agree with his crap, so they'll be more than happy to buy up the space. It's fantastic that the companies are dropping him, but it will ultimately do less good than it should.

35. At any rate it will be interesting to see where this goes
With the great success of the boycott, the next time it could be the network itself and if they start to loose major advertisers from the network, you can bet they will drop Beck like a bad habit.

At the very least it will put the other Faux morans on notice.

which is why I have Dish and not DirecTV, and why I get Link, Current, Veria, and PlanetGreen. Dish is also the one that had a 24/7 Obama channel after the election. You sure as hell wouldn't have gotten that from Murdoch.

13. Here's the major ones still left...
As a result, few major businesses remain as sponsors of Beck’s eponymous 2 p.m. PDT program. On Wednesday, the only big companies with a presence during his show were Bank of America and the Wall Street Journal, whose parent company News Corp. also owns Fox News. The rest of the commercials included spots for gold seller Rosland Capital; Ashley Furniture Home Store; Empire Carpet; Liberty Medical, a diabetes medical supplier; Johnson Law Group, an asbestos litigation firm; “Shadow Government,” a new book critical of Obama published by the National Republican Trust; and the anti-tax group TeaPartyExpress.org.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2009/08/as-boycott-continues-glenn-becks-audience-swells.html

Rosland Capital: They have convicted penis-with-ears, G. Gordon Liddy as their spokesperson, go figure.

Ashley Furniture: The founder appears to be a Democrat. Go figure.

Liberty Medical: They have teabagger, Wilford Brimley as their spokesperson, go figure.

Johnson Law Group: Ambulance chaser.

Fox will just run show-promos on Beck's show, and place the commercials elsewhere..

They'll keep Beck on if he has ZERO sponsors, because they love to irritate us.

Palin - Please watch Beck
Good job Sarah, you made Beck lose more advertisers. :)

Sarah Palin is rallying her Facebook community behind Glenn Beck.

In a post on Facebook Wednesday morning titled, "An Invitation," Palin urged her 800,000-plus Facebook fans to watch the Fox News host (via Politico):

FOX News' Glenn Beck is doing an extraordinary job this week walking America behind the scenes of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and outlining who is actually running the White House.

Monday night he asked us to invite one friend to watch; tonight I invite all my friends to watch.

125. Murdoch carried Hannity for five years, before Hannity ever made a dime for FNC.
The sponsors are banking on the fact that we, as Americans, have the attention span of a gnat. They are laying low until this blows over. Afterall, they haven't pulled their ads from the network, just from Beck's show. Murdoch banks on making his money elsewhere. Newscorp has a lot of tentacles. FNC is a propoganda outlet, pure & simple. If it makes a little money..so be it, but that's not their primary goal.

32. LA Times story I posted in LBN
An advertising boycott against Fox News host Glenn Beck has succeeded in keeping most major sponsors from running commercials on his show even as the controversial commentator's viewership has grown.

Beck attracted 2.81 million viewers Monday, his third-largest audience since his show launched on Fox News in January, according to Nielsen Media Research data provided by the network. On Tuesday, nearly 2.7 million viewers tuned in, his fifth-largest viewership to date. And the conservative host got a plug from former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who urged people to watch his program in a post on her Facebook page.

“FOX News' Glenn Beck is doing an extraordinary job this week walking America behind the scenes of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and outlining who is actually running the White House,” she wrote Wednesday to her 800,000-plus supporters.

-----

Fox News insists that the boycott has not affected its revenue, because advertisers have just moved their commercials to different time periods. And for his part, Beck appears invigorated by the challenge. “Even if the powers to be right now succeed in making me poor, drum me out … I will only be stronger for it,” he said on the air Wednesday. “And I will use American ingenuity and my ingenuity to pull myself up, and I will find another way to get this message out, on a platform that will be a thousand times more powerful. Because of my faith, I know how this story ends. The truth will set you free.”

44. True
Now that the Democrats have the majorities, after Health Care one of the things they should push through is reinstating the Fairness Doctrine.

I'd love to hear the rhetoric the 'pukes would use against fairness!

In any event, this propaganda must end!

43. Unfortunately
Edited on Fri Aug-28-09 02:01 AM by Cherchez la Femme
Fox "News" as a whole hasn't lost a penny, according to some press they issued; the advertisers just swapped their ads to another Faux 'fair and balanced' *cough, cough, gag* show.

I'm far from unhappy that Beck is taking his rightful medicine; but like the Hydra, you cut off a serpents head and it'll grow right back

while not weakening or changing the entity.

Next time they go too far (won't be long, unfortunately) and we write complaints to advertisers I for one am going to insist, with Faux's proven track record time and again, they withdraw their advertising from that biased, evil corporation in toto.

Fuck Faux, and fuck their loyal advertisers. There's lots of other channels out there worthier of their advertising dollars.

edit for clarity

103. That is a different boycott
Edited on Fri Aug-28-09 02:22 PM by Quasimodem
I’m not certain the advertisers COULD move their commercials off Fux.

An advertiser (or their advertising agency) buys time from the networks for a certain amount of commercial minutes over a stated length of days/weeks/months. They might be able to renegotiate terms to insure that their spots don’t air during a particular hour of the day, but if they wish to pull the spot entirely, I doubt they could get their money back.

The boycott would have to go on much longer, and with the stated purpose of penalizing any advertiser seen on Fux. Even if the advertisers agreed to honor the boycott, their present contracts would have to run out before the failure to renew those old contracts became noticeable on the air.

Edited for clarity. :argh:
