Oops. Cop wrongfully tazes city councilman's daughter
Officer Anthony Plummer was charged with using the Taser on Celeste Thomas, 26, while she was on her knees with her hands in the air. Policy dictates a Taser should only be used if a suspect is resisting arrest or has assaulted the officer, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Monday.

"A preliminary review shows he is not in compliance with our standards and he is being investigated for unnecessary and excessive use of force," Police Chief Thomas Streicher said.

Plummer's police powers were revoked during the internal investigation, the Enquirer said.

He has had use-of-force complaints against him several times, resulting in a suspension and two reprimands. He was once fired from the force, but was reinstated after an appeal.

Thomas is a daughter of City Councilman Cecil Thomas, a former police officer who heads the council's law and safety committee.

30. Because the police are the government.
Being a cop is a license to assault and kill without repercussions.

17. He hadn't tazed the councilman's daughter before.
He finally picked the wrong victim. Other people -- oh, why should the police care?

32. Ineffectively, as we now know.
I wonder if that punishment was desk duty while maintaining pay grade. Or better yet, a paid vacation.

4. The cop acted stupidly
Maybe the president can't say that because the police apologists will go apeshit, but I can.

10. He absolutely did act stupidly. But I will not blame all cops
for the stupid ones. If that makes me an apologist, then so be it. For every stupid, racist, piece of shit cop we hear about on the news or wherever, there are thousands who risk their lives for the good. You don't hear so much about that.

Too bad for that cop, he broke the unwritten rule.

"Thou shalt not taze anyone important, nor the offspring of someone important"

11. Cops seem to get a kick out of tazing people just 'cause they can
Edited on Thu Aug-27-09 08:31 PM by HughMoran
I wonder if this is a new form of sadistic behavior syndrome. It reminds me of Skinner (not ours - lol).

14. They do.
I've seen it. I've seen four or five cops in the bar I worked after a good tazing many, many times. The guy that does the tazing always gets a round and then they all have fun doing little pantomimes of the person jerking from the voltage running through them. It's a regular hoot.

99% of the cops give the rest a bad name.

I'll keep my head, thank you. And, I quit the bar business a few years ago.

12. Should officers be tased first before we issue them a taser? To teach them what it feels like?

18. Cops ARE tazed during their training.
And they are told that it's OK to use the tazer to get uncompliant subjects to do what they want them to do.

Basically, they are issued a torture device and told that it is OK to use it to torture people into obeying their orders, lawful or otherwise.

23. My brother (a state trooper, former cop) has been tazed at least
3 times that I know of. I have seen a tape of one of the times. He has never tazed anyone, but he would if the circmstances were appropriate. And by appropriate, I don't mean this kind of stuff.
