1. There's a built in hold at T minus 9 minutes that goes on about 40 minutes
so it will launch at 11:59 PM provided the weather holds and nothing breaks.

9. Why the built-in hold?
Is it to give them time for one more run through in checking systems, weather, etc?

19. thanks, it was. I've begged for a pass but no 1 can get me 1, they said its so hard to get close
after 9/11 (you know, that event that Cheney did everything he could that day to allow it to succeed), so it sucks that they don't do the large grassy field parking just a few miles from the launch pad. :( You have to be about 5-7 miles away, depending on which way you go. I like going to the gate from route 3 and sitting outside of it. You can also go over to the Space Visitors complex and pay to be kinda close, or be across the river in Titusville, to the West.

25. I watched a day launch from Cocoa Beach in June last year
It was incredible even in the daytime. TV/ film gives a dim shadow to how overwhelming an experience it is to witness first person.

24. My Father lives in Orlando Fl.
he watches the countdown on TV then steps outside to watch the shuttle go up. Not sure if he stayed awake for last night's launch. He probably did....

26. I always like taking "Newbies" out to see a night launch.
They generally think I'm pulling their leg when I first tell them they can see a night lauch from so far away. :hi:

23. Shuttle launched successfully from KSC on a great night in FL.
1/2 a ton of fuel per second! that's some rocket.....

at 'negative-return' point. 4:08 into flight, 61 miles in altitude.

Glad it finally went off.
