Any comments about my LTTE? |
|
I was reading through the San Francisco Chronicle this morning and I read this letter to the editor that trashes Al Gore again.
This is his letter: ********************************************
Editor -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger a environmentalist ("Governor expands his brand of 'green,' '' April 11)? What has he done, other than set targets for others to miss in the future?
With his four Hummers, he is even less of an environmentalist than Al Gore. Gore's inconvenient truth is that he and his mansion use 20 times more energy than the average American.
Are people today so celebrity giddy that they can't see a slick projection for the shadow-show it is?
This is my response: ******************************************* Dear Editors,
I just don't know why the Chronicle allows people like Steve Lawrence to spew out half truths about Al Gore. While Al Gore might live in a big house, his carbon footprint is extremely low. He has solar panels, uses compact fluorescent bulbs, and his all his electricity comes from renewable sources. So while it's true that Al Gore uses more electricity, Steve Lawrence leaves out his inconvenient truth that all that electricity is green.
What do you guys think? Anything else I should add?

1. Does Gore REALLY use 20 times more kilowatts than average?? |
|
I have to say I highly doubt that. It's my guess his COSTS are 20 times higher than average BECAUSE he's invested in renewable energy sources.
If I am correct in that then I'd add that in too. But the letter you wrote is fantastic IMHO.

I'm not sure if his costs or his electrical usage is 20 times more but as long as I point out to people that Al Gore isn't the hypocrite these Republicans try to make him out to be I would have done my job.

4. I don't know about the Chronicle |
|
but at my local paper, LTTEs starting with "I don't know why the Editors etc etc" don't get published w/o having that part whacked off.
You could make your point still even if you whacked that part yourself:
"In answer to Steve Lawrence's letter with half-truths about Al Gore: While Al Gore might live in a big house, his carbon footprint is extremely low. He has solar panels, uses compact fluorescent bulbs, and (his-WHACK THIS, extra word here) all his electricity comes from renewable sources. So while it's true that Al Gore uses more electricity, Steve Lawrence leaves out his inconvenient truth that all that electricity is green."
(I might also change "his inconvenient truth" to *the inconvenient truth* but that is just a matter of my own taste)
Good letter - - send it!

5. You might also want to mention that Gore's house is not just a house... |
|
It is his office as well, and he has staff and security working there.

I added this:

7. Ouch, bad ending on a preposition in that.... |
|
(which his staff and security works out of)
Maybe (which also includes work space for his staff and security) instead?

I'll use your phrasing instead!

I just sent it. Hopefully, they'll print it and we can let those right wingers know that there are people who will speak up and expose their lies and half truths. Thank you everybody for your inputs; they were very helpful.
