Duncan Hunter is such an easy target and she managed to fuck it up.

5. I agree, and no one asked the biggest question for Duncan Hunter: |
|
If you have no problem with these interrogation techniques, then are you saying that you have no problem with US. Soldiers captured on the battle field being subjected to torture, to waterboarding, to sensory or sleep deprivation, etc. etc.?
Pin him to saying that he doesn't care of US soldiers are tortured, or explain why the double standard...

7. I was infuriated when I realized than none of the three of them had read the Report |
|
There they were, all three of them reported to be authoritative voices on this one of the most important matters to ever face the nation, and not one of them - Tweety, Schultz, or that halfwit Republican Duncan Hunter - had read the report. The entire conversation was refuted by the footnote that said that what was done exceeded guidelines and SERE training. End of story. If any of them had read that page they would have known that.

But she wasn't prepared to stop Hunter's raving about the SERE training and "just scaring the detainees".
The report is clear, the techniques were bastardized or perverted, the the CIA "reversed engineered" SERE training and used it illegally against the detainees. They went beyond what they were authorized to do. The documents show the CIA was pushing the boundaries of what the administration's own legal counsel considered acceptable treatment.

It is actually pretty easy to do since my kids always talk at the same time...all you have to do is concentrate on the one you want to hear....she stated what we did was Illegal and why...and to be honest with you, regardless of Hunters attempt to silence the truth...the truth is what I heard...

The report clearly states that the interrogators went well beyond the SERE training and "One of the psychologists/interrogators acknowledged that the Agency’s use of the technique differed from that used in SERE training and explained that the Agency’s technique is different because it is “for real” and is more poignant and convincing."
I wanted Tweety or Schultz to read that part to Duncan Hunter to shut him up.

32. She could have called Hunter out on the SERE training. |
|
Everyone in the world knew he was going to trot out that old canard, but she didn't have a good response. She should have slapped it down with a clear and concise response like "They do that to train for when they are tortured". Instead she tried to give some long winded response that was easily talked over.
If you are going to show up on a show like Hardball where talking points and sound bites are the currency you have to be prepared.

|
He should have moderated that more fairly. It is up to the moderator to set the tone and enforce rules that allow people to speak without being drowned out. Tweety was going one-on-one with Hunter when Schultz reminded him that there was a third person there. She got few words out and then Hunter interrupted and Tweety let him. Schultz is not the best spokesperson, but she is definitely no idiot. Tweety is lazy and bullying and Hunter is a lying bully. Wasserman didn't stand a chance. It was like being at a town meeting trying to get a word in edgewise while the teabaggers are going at it.

50. If she is DLC, it explains a lot. |
|
Remember, she runs unopposed in a district with some money. She supported (or at least didn't oppose) Republican incumbents in Miami, even though she had some party position to promote Democratic candidates. I don't know her affiliations, but let's say, they would be consistent with a DLC.
She does not mention a public or single payer health care plan in her position on her website. She is not a progressive leader.

They love something called a debate where the "moderator" lets them shout down and interrupt their opponent.
They love a situation where they can intimidate the host and force him to let them bluster.
They definitely do not love an honest debate where the results are judged on the merits of the arguments rather than who can scream the loudest.

And that's still a helluva lot better than most Democrats. I was surprised that it was Tweety, and then only toward the end of the segment, who overturned Hunter's fatuous argument that waterboarding our own troops is equivalent to waterboarding enemies--by pointing out the psychological difference. But all's well that ends well.
