Did Hitler Want War?
Pat Buchanan

On Sept. 1, 1939, 70 years ago, the German Army crossed the Polish frontier. On Sept. 3, Britain declared war. Six years later, 50 million Christians and Jews had perished. Britain was broken and bankrupt, Germany a smoldering ruin. Europe had served as the site of the most murderous combat known to man, and civilians had suffered worse horrors than the soldiers. By May 1945, Red Army hordes occupied all the great capitals of Central Europe: Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Berlin. A hundred million Christians were under the heel of the most barbarous tyranny in history: the Bolshevik regime of the greatest terrorist of them all, Joseph Stalin. What cause could justify such sacrifices?

This is a very funny piece in which Pat asks A LOT of dumb questions. The short answer from reading "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" is Y E S Hitler wanted WAR. I mean he wrote a whole book on the subject.

Classic stuff here

As of March 1939, Hitler did not even have a border with Russia. How then could he invade Russia?

I mean Pat does know Hitler was signing treaties with Stalin to split up Poland. So Pat after they each got half of Poland... they'd pretty much would share a border wouldn't they?

1. Not to mention that the major reason to split Poland
was to take the Soviets OUT of the coming war in western Europe. Hitler thought that if he and Stalin signed a non-aggression pact, that the Soviets would stand by while he basically subjugated all of Europe, THEN Hitler would invade the Soviet Union and destroy the communists. All while using dupes in the United States, like Prescott Bush and people who thought JUST LIKE PAT BUCHANAN to keep the United States neutral.

After the conquest of Europe, followed by the Soviet Union, Hitler would isolate the United States and reduce us to a client state (along with all of South America) which would have no military (by treaty).

2. He is not stupid. He IS a Nazi.
He may not (or may) be a card carrying party member, but he has ALWAYS expressed sympathy and respect for Nazi Germany.

Quack.

3. Being a Nazi doesn't exempt him from being stupid
It's possible (actually rather common) to belong to both groups.

4. While that is true, I don't think that is the case here - he is a good writer,
so far as his command of the language goes. A strong vocabulary and coherent grammar are not the hallmarks of stupidity.

He is, however, a Nazi propagandist, and jumps through impossibly logic-challenged hoop to make excuses for the inexcusable.

And that is what makes him particularly dangerous - the very fact that he can express himself well lends an air of credibility to his nonsense, for the unthinking.

I could go through that piece, argument by argument, and show that there were very sound reasons for Hitler to pursue the course he did, and it had everything to do with expanding the Reich - NOT cooperating with his neighbors - but to the unknowing who just scan the article it sounds like he is making sense. And that is his whole purpose in writing it - to make excuses for the Nazi empire.

5. I hate to label him a Nazi but
I mean it's only a month ago he was bashing Darwin as evil for leading to Nazism. Then here he is this month making excuses for Nazi involvement in WWII. I totally agree with you. From what I remember from the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich it's very easy to go point by point and not only refute Pat's dumb framing with a question excuses, but show how dumb these questions are. To me the worst thing at all about this thing is for 70 years liberals had to take appeasing Hitler-weak on defense arguments (heck see Iraq war discussion) from conservatives, and yet here's Pat making excuses and blaming the British for WWII! It's unfucking believable. It's like they don't even read the crap they write and expect us to have no memory. I.E. conservatives have zero respect for your intellect.
