PSA: Could everyone please quit with the "Glenn Beck raped and murder a girl in 1990" joke?

I hate Beck, and I understand the satirical sentiment behind the joke, but please find some other crime for the joke, Rape is a notoriously hard crime to prosecute because the rapist can always claim the victim is lying. False rape accusations, even if meant as humor or satire makes it harder to convict the actual rapists. Remember the Duke rape case? shit like that hurts actual rape vicims because then people have trouble believing them, they, such as my colse friend who was raped several months ago, get accused of lying, exaggerating, or looking for attention.

So please, quit with this joke.

You can disagree with the method, but this is not being done for a laugh, it's being done to make a very serious point.

Calling it a joke assigns a motive to the people doing it that they don't have.

I won't say that it can't be offensive, but I tend to support its use.

"Rape" is a hot-button word. I think that this same schtick would work as well with just "murder"--and that no one would be objecting, strangely enough.

it is the crime

that has the highest # of false reports. specifically, false reports WITH a suspect identified.

many property crimes have fairly high false reportage, but they rarely point the finger, because the goal is insurance fraud.

fwiw, i KNEW the duke case was almost certainly bogus practically from the start. most false claims have certain red flags and commonalities, etc.

i've dealt with TONS of rape victims. you are correct, they are hurt by cases like Duke.

My disabled friend's rapist got off on a reduced sentence because the defense attorney assassinated her character and called her a liar and an attention-seeking whore and enough jurors bought it. THAT is why this shit pisses me off, this shit leads people to doubt the sincerity of rape victims.
