So exactly what is a “moderate” conservative? |
|
Is it one who thinks that lynching black people is an undignified way to kill “them?”
Is it one who leaves his gun in his car when attending a presidential rally?
Is it one who thinks it might be a bit rude to be filmed peeing on Ted Kennedy’s grave?
Is it one who supports health care and then votes against it each and every time?
Is it one who believes that “Faux News” goes a little too far from time to time?
Is it one who thinks that firebombing Iran would be preferable to nuking it?
Is it one who thinks that accident victims should be searched for birth certificates?
Is it one who believes we should rebuild only the tourist areas of New Orleans?
Is it one who requires more concrete proof that Obama was born in Kenya?
Or is it simply one who has the capacity to think, but doesn’t?
I guess my definition of a “moderate” conservative is one who is slightly less insane than the rest of them. Please feel free to add your own definition.

by greed and those motivated by resentment.
I believe that those motivated by resentment are extremely dangerous people who will do anything to achieve their goals.
I believe that those motivated by greed will hire someone extremely dangerous who will do anything to achieve their goals.

Some will refer to Jacob Javits or Jack Kemp or Chuck Percy. They were "fiscally conservative" (I don't wanna pay no stinkin' taxes) but were also socially liberal...generally in favor of social spending but they still wanted their tax breaks.
The last moderate in the Senate was Lincoln Chaffee...no longer a rushpublican.

4. Perhaps today's definition of a "moderate" Republican should be |
|
George W. Bush. Let's face it. He was in a position to blow up the entire world, but all he did was to piss off just about everyone in it. I guess that could be defined as "moderation" by current standards.

To some rushpublican, booooshie is a "liberal". Moderates these days hide in caves...totally overwhelmed and traumatized by the wingnuts.
Cheers...

i met him a couple of times and was very impressed...of course he was a throwback to a time when New England repubs were more liberal than southern Dems...
and his environmental record was as high as if not higher than most democrats in the senate...

writes in "Nelson Rockefeller" whenever she's unimpressed with the endorsed candidates. I am slowly making a Democratic voter (if not a registered Democrat) out of her.
Loved Nixon though...no idea what that is about.

11. From my perspective... |
|
a moderate conservative is a person who does not believe in radical change of any sort. Either to the left or to the right.
This does not at present describe most people who call themselves conservatives in America (might well describe quite a few Dems, however). It would describe many, not all, conservatives in Europe.

There are six recognized official Parties on the Alaskan Ballet. Republican, Democratic, Independent, Green, Libertarian, and Moderate Republican. I personally have yet to see a noticeable difference between them though..

16. Yeah, but he's been dead for 30 years. |
|
And I doubt if those who remember Attica would call him "moderate."
Murder is murder, even if unarmed inmates are being slaughtered during an ill conceived attack to "restore order." No one will ever know how many innocent people died (guards included) because of Rockefeller's order for an all out military type assault upon Attica inmates.
Why did this happen? Because it was the Nixon era and Rockefeller wanted to prove he was tough enough to be president. Rockefeller was determined to show he was "tough on crime" no matter how many innocent lives were lost.
Fuck this "moderate" Republican. He's just one more prick who didn't give a shit about anyone's life or well being but his own.
