Ted Nugent will be coming to Altoona once again in February.
The scary part is where it's mentioned that his voice and viewpoints resonate with many people around here. Sad to say; it's accurate.


The 2010 Outdoor Times Hunting & Fishing Show will once again feature national flavor.
Ted Nugent, popular musician, author and outdoors enthusiast, headlines the event, which will be held at the Blair County Convention Center Feb. 19-21, 2010.
Nugent, who drew a large crowd here in 2007, returns to speak at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19 and at noon Saturday, Feb. 20.
"Obviously, when you talk about hunting and fishing, one of the biggest names on the map is Ted Nugent," Mirror General Manager Ray Eckenrode said. "His voice and viewpoints resonate with many of our Altoona Mirror readers and Outdoor Times subscribers, and we're thrilled to have an opportunity to connect our customers with Nugent in such an up-close-and-personal way. It will be three years since he last appeared in Altoona and so much has changed in the world. I'm sure he'll have a lot of new ground to cover."

In that 1990 interview with the Free Press and from information collected from the Chickenhawk Web site, Nugent told
about how he avoided the draft: "He claims that 30 days before his Draft Board Physical, he stopped all forms of personal
hygiene. The last 10 days he ingested nothing but junk food and Pepsi, and a week before his physical, he stopped using
the bathroom altogether, virtually living inside his pants caked with excrement and urine. That spectacle won Nugent a
deferment."

10. Actually...

Nugent has partially retracted that statement. He claims in the July 2009 issue of Texas Monthly that he did begin soiling himself a week before the physical, but he does admit to using a student deferment to stay out of Vietnam. He now claims to be "embarrassed" by his actions, and has been putting in a lot of volunteer work with the USO since 2003 to try to make up for that.

As for the pedophilia charges, I can't help you there. Nugent does legally own an MP5 submachine gun, which requires a very clean criminal record, but I suppose anything is possible.
