Poll question: Totally pointless fluff poll: Which athletic conference does your alma mater belong to?
Edited on Mon Sep-14-09 10:06 AM by marmar
I went to a football game at my alma mater Saturday, and realized how much I really miss college. Since I'm feeling all collegiate today, I'm posting this completely pointless poll.

My alma mater is a member of the:

..... and my alma mater rules the world:

HAIL!

2. Why does the logo for the Big Ten have an '11' in it?
My school was in the Pac-8 when I started and the Pac-10 when I graduated.

3. Because there are 11 teams in the Big 10.
Edited on Mon Sep-14-09 10:10 AM by Brickbat
They didn't want to change the name when Penn State joined. I think it's a brilliant logo.

9. When the Big Eight added four more teams, they became the Big 12.
I don't follow the Big Ten's logic; although, there was hope that Northwestern could be dumped, getting the conference back to ten teams.

12. Big 10 was such an iconic name they didn't want to change it. I think it's pretty cool, m'self.
Also, "Big Eleven" sounds dumb.

14. Kinda disses Penn State, doesn't it?
"Yes you can be in our conference but we won't acknowledge your existence by changing our two-syllable, six-letter name."

31. But...they did acknowledge Penn State's existence by changing the logo, and changing the number.
*shrug* I don't think they complained.

29. Big East football is dying, not rising.
Syracuse, the 'Ville, and the Mountaineers have fallen off the map. Seriously, if Cincinnati is your best hope, well, the football must suck.

warrants a place in your poll, but the Mountain West Conference doesn't? Don't you like college football? The Mountain West is the 3rd toughest league this year, and we just might get a team in the title game with the right breaks. Go 'Pokes!

16. NCAA so far, if FSU is not thrown out
And depending on what the NCAA does about their "confidential" papers:

Judge signs order compelling FSU, NCAA to turn over documents

By Paul Flemming • Florida Capital Bureau • August 28, 2009

TALLAHASSEE -- Circuit Judge John Cooper has signed a final judgment ordering the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Florida State University and the school's lawyers to release records in an ongoing sanctions appeal. Cooper ruled last week, but his order today starts the clock running on release of the documents sought in a media lawsuit to enforce the state's open-records law. Cooper ordered a transcript of an appeal hearing before the NCAA's committee on infractions as well as the NCAA's response to FSU's appeal released.

Lawyers for the NCAA said last week they would seek an emergency stay to hold off release of the records, now required within 48 hours of Cooper's order. Florida's Gannett Co. Inc. newspapers and television stations were among 27 papers, stations and media organizations who filed suit in June to force release of documents in an athletic-program infraction case.

The NCAA made documents in the case available to FSU outside lawyers on a secure computer and required a confidentiality agreement. The NCAA maintained the documents are not public records subject to Florida open-government laws. The day after the lawsuit was filed, the NCAA allowed FSU officials to transcribe a response to the ongoing appeal and release a version, redacted of student names, to the media.

All this controversy is the only reason I know which one FSU is in.

(Iron City)

The football team wasn't particularly good on the field, but they sure knew how to chug. This didn't stop them from walking around campus acting like gods. Needless to say, they weren't the "best and the brightest".

I miss college too, and especially college football (it's really hard to follow from Italy).
One of my fondest memories from college is when we played Nebraska in 1996 and won 19-0. Obviously I had no voice left when I left the stadium, and later when I was at a bar a cheering crowd came by carrying a goalpost...

Go Devils!
