1. Where is the epicenter?
I'm in the Los Angeles area. I didn't feel anything, but I was also in my car from 12:15-12:30.

3. I can't find it on USGS yet. When the shimmy goes on for that long,
it's a sizeable one. This was pretty faint, but clearly NOT due to a vehicle.

2. I didn't feel it...
When did it happen?

Just a few minutes ago?

8. Nor in North County...
Just checked with my mom in Rancho Bernardo. Not a twitch. Probably somewhere in the desert.

7. USGS doesn't have anything...
just a 2.1 quake 140 miles away from LA. I don't think you would even notice it.

9. Well now I feel foolish. Nothing at all on USGS. But it was a very marked fine shaking
that progressed to a very slight swaying, and went on for over 30 seconds.

This happened a few months ago, and also never showed up on USGS. Sigh. I must be losing my mine.

10. Any train tracks near you? Heavy construction?
I was once in an old wood framed building when a grader drove past heading into a contstruction area next door. I swore it was a quake.

26. Nopr to the train tracks. And in this economy there is NO construction, with
the single exception that I know of in a mixed use project two miles away that is out ot the heavy equipment stage.

23. Nothing on IRIS either
Maybe it was too weak to show up on the sites. I know IRIS only shows quakes over a certain number, so the epicenter may be closer than you think.

12. Are you drinking in the afternoon?
Everything seems shaky when you're tipping the bottle back.

 Just kidding!

You might have felt something. The earth is always shifting and moving.

14. Maybe some military testing?
Around here Vandenburg shoots off patriot missiles. They shake for a length of time usually longer than earthquakes.

18. Ah, used to live in Lompoc
And worked at Vandenberg. First time I was around for one of the Atlas (or was it Titan?) launches, I thought it was time to dive under the desk.

16. Nothing here on the Central Coast. You may have a sensitive inner seismometer, Kestrel...
All of us become pretty alert, don't we? And yes, half a minute is long when the Earth is twitching.

Hekate

25. Those are common and easily recognizable. This went on too long, and
Edited on Tue Sep-15-09 11:09 AM by kestrel91316
morphed from quick trembling into slight swaying like far off big quakes do. My assistant felt it and commeneted on it, too.

When this has happened before, it has turned out to be very deep stuff in the quiet section of the San Andreas that is nearby and gonna blow some day.

It bothers me......
