Update to the Governator's veto of domestic violence funding. |
|
As you might recall I posted this summer that to fix his unbalanced budget he line item vetoed the Battered Women's Shelter Program. We were expecting a cut but were completely shocked when he eliminated it entirely. Lots of programs were reduced in the budget, very few were eliminated entirely. This was the only source of state funding for Domestic Violence.
A bill was introduced last friday to restore the funding. It's not much but we are used to that and can make do. It passed the assembly but the republicans in the senate blocked it along with all other urgency items that required a 2/3 majority to make some sort of point. We needed 27 votes and fell short by 3.
