Pelosi nixes healthcare deal with Blue Dogs
http://thehill.com/homenews/house/59839-pelosi-nixes-deal-with-blue-dogs-on-healthcare

By Mike Soraghan - 09/22/09 05:03 PM ET

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is nixing a deal she cut with centrists to advance health reform, said a source familiar with negotiations.

Pelosi’s decision to abandon the agreement that was made with a group of Blue Dogs to get the bill out of committee would steer the healthcare legislation back to the left as she prepares for a floor vote.

Pelosi is planning to include a government-run "public option" in the House version of the healthcare bill. She wants to model it on Medicare, with providers getting reimbursed on a scale pegged to Medicare rates.

3. She must be feeling more confident of her position
This is why I started the morning with a call to keep the faith.

Well, not THIS specifically, but it would be silly to abandon our reps when we need to make them hear us.

10. I'm willing to wager that...
...Pelosi and Obama have been discussing this non-stop and they see the winds changing to their favor.

Contrary to contrarian belief it would be silly to assume that the congressional leadership and the President are not in constant communication.

4. She might get a public option, but if the Senate passes a piece of crap, there's still trouble.
Because the negotiations would try to reconcile the bills, and some of the good stuff might get cut out in the process. Ideally, if both houses pass a strong public option, then it is much more likely you will get a strong public option after the bill leaves the conference committee.

7. This with Reid saying
he will use the Budget Reconciliation option to pass a bill. Do I sense a stiffening of spines here?
