So, when do we call for a boycott of Seattle...? |
|
I mean, despite Mount Vernon having a straight Democratic federal and state representative bloc, and a city council voting near unanimously against Beck's visit, there are still lots of calls to "punish" "redneck, hick town" Mount Vernon with a total boycott, because of the mayor's action at a private event.
So, why should Seattle be any different? It matters little that, in terms of elected office, Seattle is one of the bluest cities in the country. Glenn Beck was still allowed to speak there in front of a private group, just as he will be at Mount Vernon. Worse, the venue where he spoke was a public facility, paid for by Seattle and King County taxpayers...so that would make all of us complicit as well.
So, when are we going to step up and claim Seattle is nothing more than a "hick town" filled with "rednecks," and vowing that we'll never spend any of our money on Seattle businesses or products? I mean, if it's fair to do it to Mount Vernon, it should be just as fair to treat Seattle the same way, right? Maybe, if enough Seattle businesses are forced into bankruptcy (or at least into laying off lots of workers), it will "teach the city a lesson" for the next time. After all, there is such a thing as collective guilt...or at least there appears to be in Mount Vernon's case.

1. Did the mayor of Seattle give Beck the key to the city while I wasn't looking? |

4. Don't buy Seattle's Best Coffee. |

Don't buy Starbucks.
But, really, there is a difference between what private citizens decide to do and what is done in the public's names.
