3. We could revisit it Right Now!!! I think that it was OVERWHELMINGLY clear from the evidence...
...that Gretta Van Susternaignainin owes her sorry Fox News career on that trial.

And the Kardashian asshole family would be unknown to us.

:P

4. Give me diversion
Give me diversion

Give me diversion

The spectacle is not a collection of images, but a social relation among people, mediated by images.

The language is kind of funny and it is a little dramatic, but the "Society of the Spectacle" seems to get more accurate with every passing year.

5. I was recuperating from an inner ear injury
at the time so I spent the days clutching my chair or bed which gave me a lot of time on my hands so I listened to the whole trial and was blown away with the verdict. I swear I went into shock.

22. I listened to every bit of it too
I was going thru trama in my personal life and needed the division so I make no apology for following it.

7. I'm one of the few who thinks the verdict was correct.
The prosecution's job is to eliminate reasonable doubt, while the defense's job is to create reasonable doubt. By calling into question the credibility and reputation of the prosecutors, the police, and their experts, the defense was able to create reasonable doubt. Because the government had engaged in so much sleazy conduct over the years, because it was so notoriously racist, and because it was so incompetent, the defense carried the day.

He probably did it, but probably isn't the standard.

16. I agree with the verdict, too.
I had a real problem with getting beyond a reasonable doubt.

19. My son in law's father was a upper ranking police officer..
From outward appearances many would have thought him a redneck bigot but he was a very intelligent man with a deeper understanding of the law than anyone I think I've ever met.

I have to say I was surprised when he told me he thought OJ was most likely innocent.

24. Agree
I followed the whole thing and felt this was the correct verdict to come too, in the civil trial I also think the verdict was correct because I actually think he's guilty but the standard is different.

29. Agreed.
I always thought OJ was covering for Jason, his son by his first marriage.

The best defense money could buy.

10. I don't know
I think the more legally savvy people would have set us straight on the incompetency of the prosecution's case, along with cogent interpretations of the obvious police blunders.

Not to mention the numerous blogs who could point out specific inside information that would show the trial as a legal freak show.

I don't think it would be a controversy here at DU.

The division over what's racism and what's not.

That would have been good times.

from the diversion:

TV's highest-paid stars

Mariska Hargitay and Kiefer Sutherland make millions on "SVU" and "24," but one actor tops them. Who's No. 1?

didn't take time to consider, the thread could become an actual discussion of the guilt/innocence crap.

jeezzz

I found every aspect of that media/cultural nightmare to be vile and disgusting.
And if anyone asked me if he was guilty or not, they might get an earfull:

"First, I don't know, I wasn't there, and don't fucking care!
And, based on the racial angle, I deeply resent the media asking the populace in poll, after poll, to be the jury"

The whole thing was deeply sick.

edit: oh yea, I don't know who..

was the first Great Awakening. Yeah, that awakening that tells you there is no justice. It also tells you to turn off the tv, because it is poisonous bullshit. Do we listen? NOOOOOooooo!
