Grayson re-used two of his lines. Alms for a wordsmith! |
|
Admittedly, good lines: "nattering nabobs of negativism" and "foot-dragging, knuckle-dragging neanderthals".
But if he's going in prepared, and not coming up with this stuff on the spot, repeats will happen. The knuckle-dragging neanderthal comment in particular is a little tired, except for the fact that it's NEVER heard in polite media conversation.
....So! In addition to any cash you might have donated to Rep. Grayson, let's get together a few brain cells and donate some phrases! Either new lines, or tried-and-true ones never heard in the mainstream. This is the kind of thing forums like this were made for!
For example:
- Republicans
Obstreperous obstructionists; talentless, tantrum-throwing termites; the "squeaky wheel" beggar party
- Companies/Executives (works for banks, insurance cos, no-bid contractors...)
Vampiric vultures; The Hoover of industries - they just keep on sucking
He's already shown that he's not afraid of a little alliteration. All bets are off on what he might say!

1. "Nattering nabobs of negativism" was stolen from Spiro Agnew! |
|
I'm sure Grayson intended it ironically, considering the phrase was coined by William Safire for an Agnew speech.

Oh well. All the more reason to give him a hand!

3. I've always liked the "Barbarian" reference |
|
And it's more historically relevant, given that Barbarians (Vandals and Visigoths, actually) were responsible for tearing down what was left of the once-mighty Roman Empire.
Maybe something about "Barbarians at the gate".

5. If you don't know the Agnew line |
|
Written I believe by the late, crank extraordinaire William Safire, maybe giving advice is a bit presumptuous on your part.

Wasn't around when it was coined.
Do you take issue with my "advice", as you put it? What's the harm in suggesting new lines?

7. I'd say of all the Democrats I can think of right now that need help with their lines |
|
The Congressman is pretty low on the list.
