Judge Schall taking senior status, Obama's first vacancy on U. S. Appeals for the Federal Circuit

On Monday Judge Alvin Schall officially takes senior status on the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. This creates Obama's first vacancy on that court and the first since 2006. Obama's nominee when confirmed will replace Judge Schall who was nominated by George H.W. Bush on March 3, 1992.

The Federal Circuit has nationwide jurisdiction over appeals based on subject matter, typically involving US patent law and appeals from specialized courts like the United States Court of International Trade and the United States Court of Federal Claims. Only the US Supreme Court can reverse its decisions.
