Give the Games to Rio
I think the olympic games should go to Rio. North America has hosted the games on a number of occasions while South America has never hosted the games. I think South America should be allowed to host a set of the olympic games. In addition, I think Rio De Janerio would be a good host for the games. I have heard some people say maybe Rio is not ready to host the world, but Rio hosts the world every year with its carnival.

2. I agree. Now that they've announced that some of the events
might be in the Twin Cities area, I don't want the Games. Too much hassle for not enough benefit.

4. Twin Cities, as in Minnesota??? That should be a dealbreaker - but I don't think it will be.
And now that Obama is invested in this, we need the "win".

3. My livelihood depends on this.
I am being selfish and care about nothing except being able to feed my family for the next 7 yrs.
Construction is dying in Chicago.

5. As much as I would like to see Chicago get the Olympics
1. South America has never hosted an Olympic games.

2. The 2010 Winter Games are in Vancouver, BC, the 2002 Winter Games were held in Salt Lake, the 1996 Games were held in Atlanta.

3. If Chicago is awarded the 2016 Olympic Games, we will never hear the end of it from the RW noise machine, and the debate will take away from more pressing matters facing this country.

8. Agreed.
I've lived through the debacle that was Atlanta 1996, and I've said this in other threads: The Olympics cannot be successfully hosted in any American city, due to our insistence on everything being a profit-making enterprise. Here in Atlanta, the games barely broke even and were deemed to have been a failure as a result. Screw that - let some other country take it in the kneecaps, rather than having another one of our great American cities have its reputation smeared.

10. You and me both...
and I work in the city, and know it will be a hassle. Cook country taxes are likely to go up if the games come here, but personally, all of the focus on the city from now until 2016 from an international perspective will great. Heck, I might even go out and by a condo in the south Loop so I can rent it out during those two weeks, lol.

17. Yes, it's all about what's best for the USA. Fuck the World! - except the God Almighty USA.

I pray to God that the Olympic Committee has the moral courage to tell us "NO."

We know NOTHING about being a "positive" participating member of the World Community.

After invading and occupying two sovereign nations as well as tear assing into other countries conducting summary executions with our Predator Drones, we sure as shit don't deserve ANY accolades, much less anything as prestigious as hosting The Olympics in 2016.

I don't think we could become any more ARROGANT, but let's wait and see? :eyes:
