Is it just me--does anyone else smell a Rovelike stench around the Letterman extortion plot? |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-02-09 10:23 AM by librechik
He has made some very Republican enemies lately. And CBS is way in to the corrupt news organization thing nowadays.Would they really allow their Late Night cash cow to die like they did Rather?
It's probably just a coincidence.
Right?
On edit, just discovered the affair was back in 2003? When RoveCo was at the height of his media-pwning power

20. It's no coincidence that so many affairs are becoming public recently. |
|
Expecially the ones in politics I'm sure were because of political spies but I would bet the Letterman one is too.
The way TMZ wrote on their site, that Dave and his assistant had been rumored to have had a relationship, makes it sound like the affair itself is probably old news and was semi-widely known.

21. Wanting to control David Letterman... |
|
...would be a coup for anyone in power.
Letterman has a ton of influence. People really like him and listen to him. He's got credibility.
Blackmailing him--to get him to shut up and to keep him from using comedy to go after certain people, groups or ideologies--is not exactly out of the realm of possibilities.
I'm not saying that Rove did this.
However, we all sense that our politicians are being blackmailed--or at the very least known corruption is being held over their heads. Siebel Edmonds talked about politicians being blackmailed.
I don't have any evidence that this was happening to Letterman--but why would anyone be immune to it? Especially a very powerful, influential entertainment personality?
If they succeed at blackmailing you--then they've got your original crimes plus your complicit cover-up. Letterman made sure that no one owned him.
At least Letterman had the cajones to come forward. Can you image the numbers that are owned?

30. Anyone who speaks out against "them" is taking a chance... |
|
Letterman has a huge following; what he says is repeated and spread around. Anyone who is such a large mouthpiece will no doubt make enemies because you can't please everyone, and when you please a few, you piss off another few:)
Anything is possible in this whack world, especially with the exceptionally whack GOP!
Maybe, maybe not... but I can't blame you for thinking in those terms;)

Halderman may have had a relationship with one of the women and decided to 'cash in' - poor fool. I really can't see ROve here as why would a successful CBS employee collect the check and head to his own bank to lodge/cash it - what a simpleton. Did he really believe Letterman would give him $2M that easily.
Indeed Letterman went on the attack and his approach was a stroke of genius.
