7. Jim Warren reported earlier that the "pitch" was really flat, and Obama really picked up the game.
Said Rio's pitch was much more exuberant. Mayor Daley and Jack Ryan were flat...Michelle just so-so (talked about sitting on her father's lap watching Olga and Nadia and Carl Lewis - who ran when she would have been at Princeton, according to Warren, who write for the Trib).

11. The pitch was just terrible
I stayed up to watch it live. It was just awful. The President and First Lady did very well, but they couldn't make up for the lackluster presentation where the other speakers - particularly Daley and Ryan - simply sat there repeating the same two or three phrases over and over. The video presentation was inexplicable. Chicago is a beautiful city, but they kept flashing these odd, half-second angles of the cityscape over and over and over, as if that was explanation enough. No feel for or explanation of the venues. The videos consisted of "Look! We have young people!"

It was cringe-worthy.

The media will have a field day with the President and First Lady, but the presentation was bad in spite of them. They couldn't salvage that mess.

6. Oh Well...
The Chicago teevee stations are saying it appears a vote against the USOC...still a lot of bad blood involved. The city gave it their best shot.

Now to hear the expected wingnut blaming President Obama...

USOC Scraps Plans For Olympic TV Network After Pressure

BERLIN — The U.S. Olympic Committee had everything to lose and nothing to air.

That made the decision to postpone plans for its own television network, in deference to the International Olympic Committee's wishes, an easy one.

"There is no question that we underestimated the intensity of the reaction that we got from multiple constituents," USOC chairman Larry Probst said Sunday, after meeting with IOC president Jacques Rogge and deciding to postpone the effort.

The negative reaction came mainly from the IOC and TV partner NBC. All of it seemed to be hurting the effort to bring the 2016 Olympics to Chicago.

9. What's that sound I hear?
Oh yes, it's the GOP crap-flinging machine cranking up. Hold on for a TEDIOUS round of meaningless, pointless criticism of the Obama efforts.

14. That's fine. Tokyo is out, too. They sent their Prime Minister.
Spain sent their King.
So Lula won the bid. Great to have the Southern Hemisphere get the revenue.
