From America to IOC: Fuck You!
There is absolutely no justification for Chicago to be eliminated in the first round. Madrid got more votes than Chicago and Tokyo when the 2012 Summer Olympic games are going to be in London?!? :puke:

Seriously WTF?

1. Oh come on...
We've hosted the Olympics plenty of times. I think Rio needs a chance. It's not like people will die because of this.

10. My problem is with Madrid getting more votes than Chicago
Even though the Summer Olympic games are going to be in Europe for 2012. Absolutely shameful...

24. Here is some insight
An IOC report from Sept. 2 described the political support in Spain for hosting the Games. “The Spanish government, the Madrid regional government, and the city council of Madrid all support the bid, as do the respective governments of the co-host cities. There is strong political unity and cross party political support.”

The construction status of venues in Madrid is another factor in its Olympic bid. “Madrid proposes 33 venues. Seventeen exist with no permanent work required; six exist with permanent work required; two venues will be built irrespective of the Games; and six new permanent venues and two temporary venues are Games-dependent,” according to the IOC report.

Part of the Madrid plan is to covert 85 percent of the Olympic Village into social housing after the Games.

Madrid is experienced in hosting sporting events, with more than a 100 events in the last 10 years.

http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/content/view/23166/

So, this states they have 70% of the venues existing (though BBC stated 85%). You are fooling yourself if you don't think logistics are a concern.

Think about the publicity nightmare when all those foreign athletes have to come through TSA at the airport.

Think about the foaming-at-the-mouth right wing nut Teabaggers on international news....and THEN think about the bomb that went off in Atlanta, planted by none other than a right wing nut.

The US has hosted more games than any other country.

And then think about the murder of that student in Chicago recently.

made them uneasy. I honestly didn't see how Chicago even had a chance.

13. The olympics are not hosted in the same continent consecutively
Since 1950s that has never happened.

Why vote Madrid over Chicago when they are obviously not going to get it?

Edited on Fri Oct-02-09 11:13 AM by Arugula Latte
By the way, the IOC has a right to make a decision. It doesn't HAVE to go along with the USA every time. There are other countries in the world, you know.

And the rest of the world just are not that into us.

As a Chicagoan, I'm breathing a sigh of relief that we didn't get it and don't know one person here who wanted them.

Rio should get it.

29. The racism was already here. The rest of the world isn't blind
they saw it. So while I'm hardly one to defend the tea baggers I'd hardly blame this on them.

22. "Madrid got more votes than Chicago and Tokyo"
As I stated elsewhere, the BBC reported they already have 85% of the venues constructed for the Olympics. Chicago just has a charismatic president speaking for it.

26. The US has serious PR problems. It's not the IOC's job to fix our problems.
Woulda been nice. But Obama would've been blamed for this decision if he hadn't made the trip. All the other heads of state went.

I feel sorry for him today. : (. Proves he still can actually stick his neck out, tho.

28. Well, according to most of you
we have a shitty ass image PR problem or whatever. Well, then I guess that is Chicago's saving grace. Honestly, the Olympics brings more harm than good to the host city, and the after effects are just shit. Sure its good for the big corporations and the wealthy but its the average city dwellers who get screwed. I really feel sorry for Rio.
