War on Christmas canard starts early this year

It is a ritual of autumn to decry the ever earlier placement of Christmas decorations in retail establishments. The holiday, a celebration of commerce wrapped in religious themes has become a weapon for Christian Domininionsts to demonstrate their belief that America is an exclusively Christian nation and that American Christians are uniquely persecuted for their beliefs. So it is not surprising that the War on Christmas canard begins early as the nation celebrates its first Christmas holiday under an African-American president.

In a report today on WorldNetDaily.com the Alliance Defense Fund claims that the U.S. Forest Service has banned the name of Jesus from decorations being assembled by children in Arizona for a blue spruce from the state that will become the Capitol Christmas Tree this year. Right wing Christian activists are using their children to make a political point and as a front for their judicial activism.

"Banning Christmas from the Capitol Christmas tree is just absurd. Christian students shouldn't be discriminated against for expressing their religious beliefs," said Jonathan Scruggs, litigation staff counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund.

When crusaders for the ‘Truth’ believe that war has been declared on their beliefs they are in effect declaring a ‘jihad’ on those they target. This distortion of belief like the 9/11 terrorists is a call to arms under the guise of religion. The group believes that a separation between church and state is an anti-Christian canard meant to permit persecution of American believers. The so-called War on Christmas is a favorite theme of the Fox News Channel attacking retailers who refuse to use the word ‘Christmas’ labeling it an expression of anti-Christian beliefs. They have targeted retailers who call the holiday a holiday rather than identifying it as the birthday celebration of the Christian Messiah Jesus Christ. The Bible makes no reference to the holiday celebration although Jesus is said to have thrown the moneychangers from the temple as a clear rebuke of capitalism.

I gave up doing xmas 35 or so years ago. its very liberating. and saves a lot of money for more important things.

(would have given it up 55 yrs. ago but didn't have the time to fight 2 families over it.)

1. I make donations to Heifer International, World Wildlife Fund, Habitat for Humanity, etc. in the
names of family members instead of buying more stuff.

2. That's a good idea. My husband's family is moving in that direction.
Last year a few of them gave donations, including to Heifer International.

In addition to the great charitable aspect, considering a significant portion of the homes in this country are starting to look like this, I think it's a great idea:
