Was Dance Routine Too Sexy for Sacramento School?

SACRAMENTO, CA - A song team routine at Rio Americano High School's Aloha event to welcome new students has drawn fire for being too racy and sexually explicit.

Rio Americano parent P.J. Bascom said the routine crossed the line.

"It was not something I would want my son looking at. I didn't find it to be appropriate or acceptable," she said. Bascom is a coach for the Junior Raiders cheerleaders, who work out at the school, but are not affiliated with the high school.

"As a parent on the PTA here, it has been discussed whether there's action going to be taken. At this time, they're not allowing the dance any further," Bascom said.

Rio student John Butterfield wrote a piece for the school's newspaper, objecting to the routine's "...moves that are explicitly sexual, which would have been almost all of this rally's routine."

I remember my high school's drill team having a more cohesive approach to their routines, and that was 25 years ago. Maybe I'm being a little over-critical, with modern drill teams pushing themselves to amp up their performances, but there's still something to be said for timing and precision in these things.

Too sexy? Nah. The booty-shaking while bent over might have been a little daring, but not overtly sexual.
