Bob Casey (D-PA) vows to "fight hard" for the public option.
U.S. Sen. Bob Casey promised Thursday to "fight hard" for a government-run public option to compete with private health insurance plans as Congress works on health care reform.

Speaking to a conference call of supporters of two liberal groups, Health Care for America Now! and MoveOn, Mr. Casey said the public option would increase consumers' choices and foster competition.

"It would be better for Pennsylvania if we had a public option," Mr. Casey said. "It would be better for America if we had a public option. It would also be better for the economy in controlling our long-term debt because we can bring costs down with the public option."

Mr. Casey serves as a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which approved its version of health care reform in July. Its version includes a public option, unlike the better-known Senate Finance Committee's version.

<snip>

"I can't understand why the far right and why a lot of Republicans are against choice and competition," Mr. Casey said. "I thought they were supposed to be the promoters of that."...

11. He's anti-choice?
Not that he's in my state but that would be a deal-breaker for me.

2. Sen Casey is a hard left on healthcare. He is also a fan of single-payer.
One of precious few who voted against defunding ACORN.

He is one of the good guys. :)

4. Other than the RW wingnuts, do you think anyone in PA misses Rantorum?
Sen. Casey conducted another tele-forum a while back and made a lot of solid points for a public option. It's good to see that he's not backing down from his stance. I'd still rather have something more like Canada and European countries have, but a public option should be the very least that we accept.

At least Sen. Casey seems to care about the people that he represents, unlike his POS predecessor. It's so nice to have a real human being as one of my Senators.

I'll have to contact him and thank him. He's going to need help to defeat sell outs like Baucus and the other corporate goons masquerading as our representatives.

7. I've been pleased with Casey.
I was a little concerned about his conservative social stances, but he seems to be fair and understands that certain choices are personal.

8. He seems to understand and care about the average person.
As you said, he tries to change what needs to be changed (such as health care), and doesn't try to force everyone to adhere to his beliefs like Rantorum did. It's still hard to believe that Rantorum isn't locked away in a padded cell.
